Original message: I had my first driving lesson in my early twenties, took a test, failed it, failed another, gave up for ten years, tried again, failed again, failed again, gave up, thought maybe some people just aren’t meant to be drivers, had kids, thought how much easier my life would be if I could drive, thought about freedom and travel and family days out and camping, thought ok, I’ll give it another go, failed again, tried again. And passed. I don’t think there’s any achievement that could mean more to me than this. An enormous thank you to my instructor @mizan_choudhury - if you’re looking for driving lessons in the Nottingham area, give him a shout. He has been so patient and helpful as I slowly gained confidence over the last year and a bit. I’m terrible at sticking with things if I don’t find them easy straight away, but I’m so glad I did this time. If you’re struggling with lessons atm, honestly just keep going. It feels like you’ll never get there, but you will 🚗✨🥳

Friday 20th March Masterclasses are back just before Bad Betty live. This month we have a real treat with your workshop being delivered by Bad Betty head honcho @amyacre Anatomy of an Emergency - Hollywood Edition: In this playful but probing workshop, we’ll consider the emergencies that we hold in our bodies, and then cross-reference them with cinematic structure as a method of distancing. We’ll play with characature, kitsch, levity and perspective as ways in to writing about things that feel heavy, looking at poems by Sasha Debevec-McKenney, Kelly Michels and Noor Hindi.

Looking forward to running a Make It Yours workshop at @justicemuseum this Friday morning 💕 Writing in Confinement: the Art of Queer Confession In this workshop, we’ll explore new ways of writing poetry and prose, combining a queer lens with Oulipo-inspired literary constraints to produce surprising and electric results. The National Justice Museum is such a wild, inspiring, sinister yet compelling place that really gets the mind whirring and the heart rate up ⚡️ Join me there at 10am this Friday to look at artefacts including Radclyffe Hall’s The Well of Loneliness and Oscar Wilde’s prison cell door, and get playful with language!
