One of my favorite details on this award-winning project was the heavily coordinated placement of track heads between the wood ceiling members to align bottom of fixture with bottom of wood hence, no stray light on the wood.

Integral shelf lighting is one of the most elegant ways to add drama. Front lighting? Backlighting? Vertical side lighting?
In this install, we chose backlighting and doubled up low profile lensed linear LED’s at top and bottom of the back of each shelf for maximum impact and a halo behind the objects on display.

When asked for a statement lighting installation in the nearly complete 30’H double height lobby of The Artise, we showed a handful of options.
In the end, @schnitzerwest chose an installation featuring 150 half-etched spheres on low voltage track with custom drop lengths.
The #sparkle and round forms are the ideal foil for the high contrast linear forms in the @nbbjdesign building built for a tech tenant.
Floating in front of an impressively large mural by @glam.dusty which is grazed for focus, the ethereal installation is both joyful and functional.

How inspiring are these paintings, with focal lighting, ambient glow, and the play of brilliants all on display, courtesy of natural light?
As a lighting designer, returning to the basics of techniques like this - more infinitely achievable with our panoply of LED performance luminaires - is a rich invitation.

Rocky Mountain @iald members were privileged to savor a private sunset experience of the new @jamesturell #Skyspace as part of @greenboxarts new installation.

To call it immersive and magical is an understatement. Watching subtly shifting gradations of hue, saturation and intensity from color changing narrow beam luminaires across the arced ceiling toward the oculus through which one views the sky above is mesmerizing.

The science of how we perceive color explains why the sky’s color appears to shift depending on the hue and saturation of the ceiling wash color, but it’s surprising to experience it nonetheless.
.
We superimposed a star map, realizing that Vega was nearly dead center in the oculus as we viewed the sky.

What a gift to have this beautiful installation, accessible by a short but steep hike up from Green Mountain Falls, just outside metro Denver.
For the lighting geeks: I suspect an RGBW+lime or mint 5-chip LED source based on the gorgeous pastels.

Illuminating art can be a tricky proposition. We want to create appropriate focus and drama, but spill light can be distracting.
This is Blue Rider by Michael Armour, and it’s mesmerizing when seen in person with proper lighting. Compare these two photos in the same space, with the only difference being illuminated with electric light or just low ambient lighting.
I used the Art Light from @revelite for this piece. The angle of each row of LED’s in the linear source has s optimized for the height of the piece. The fixture’s width is customized to align with the piece’s width. Voila: no light spill to distract from your art!

The incredible #poweroflight is showcased at @meow__wolf Santa Fe. Through the entire immersive exhibit, lighting solutions ranging from simple - like this photo, just using RGB LED strips in a mirrored setting - to more complex enhance the immersive experience.
If you haven’t been, I highly recommend this Meow Wolf install for its interactive and playful experience.
