we are thrilled to finally present complete documentation for our recent work "沿光苍穹 / THE EVER-REACHING, LUMINESCENT HORIZON", now available in its entirety on our YouTube & the @issueprojectroom archive!! we were so lucky to have a fantastic video team to capture it and took our time editing and polishing it into a cinematic experience. here are some of our favorite moments from our performance last fall, including a clip of the never-before-seen short film that concludes the piece (which did not play in the original performance) we're so proud of this work and cannot wait to share it now online, and to take it even more places!! :)

Stoked to share my new multichannel sound installation/instrument, Tapescape, premiering as part of Harvestworks’ group exhibition Outside Linear Time on Governors Island, curated by Carol Parkinson. The exhibition runs from May 16 to August 23. I’m so honored to share the exhibition with ITZIAR BARRIO @itziar_barrio SARA STERN @sarastern._ SETH CLUETT @sethcluett and ZORICA ČOLIĆ @zoricaxcolic I’ll be presenting an opening performance at 2 PM on Governors Island, co-presented by @issueprojectroom , fusing this new instrument alongside my existing feedback trumpet and laptop systems. Tapescape reimagines magnetic tape as a two-dimensional soundscape. Using a custom tape pen, I compose and record original sounds directly onto blank tape arranged across acrylic panels, painting sound through gesture, direction, and movement. Visitors are invited to activate the work with a playback pen fitted with a four-channel tape head; as the pen traces the surface, tiny movements are transformed into shifting sound diffused across four speakers in the room. The work draws a quiet tension between the pen’s movement across the tape paintings and the unfolding of sound in space, inviting listening as a tactile and embodied encounter. This project is generously supported by @harvestworks @issueprojectroom and an Emergency Grant from @foundationforcontemporaryarts

Levi Lu razvija improvizacijske forme izrazite fizičke i energetske intenzivnosti – hiperkinetičke, ritualno obojene, koreografirane u trenutku nastajanja. Njegovi koncerti uspostavljaju napeti dijalog između kineskih glazbenih tradicija i suvremenog noise izraza te propitkuju teme tjelesne dismorfije, queer identiteta i spiritualnosti, gradeći iskustvo slušanja koje je duboko tjelesno – intimno, nestabilno i povremeno uznemirujuće. Koncert se organizira u suradnji s NAE Lab/NAE kolektivom

It’s a wrap!!! Another semester of Musical Interfaces and Robotics at @upennmusic comes to a close. Last night, my students shared the instruments they’ve been developing over the past few weeks, and I left feeling incredibly proud of their creativity, care, and imagination. Throughout the semester, I had the chance to guide them through building projects with microcontrollers, sensors, fabrication, and gestural performance. It was deeply rewarding to watch each piece slowly take its own shape. It also feels incredibly fulfilling to pass parts of my own practice on to my students and then watch that knowledge evolve through their different interests, skills, and ways of thinking. Teaching this class always reminds me how expansive music can be when students begin inventing their own tools, systems, and ways of performing. I’m excited to see where their work goes next!!

MAY 8/NIGHT 3/NO MEMORIES AVAILABLE Join us for Night 3 of What Is: noncompliance, calling our bodies to the frontlines for a night of performance subverting power and authority over our form. 🩵🖲️🌐🫂🛗 Qiujiang Levi Lu is an experimental musician, media artist, and composer based in the United States. Lu invents electroacoustic instruments that use the human body as a vessel for transhumanist, embodied sound. They extend the body with cyborg-like augmentations, such as an intraoral microphone speaker feedback system, and an amplified laptop instrument, built for visceral intensity and hyperkinetic performance. Lu’s performances unfold as choreographed, ritual-inflected improvisations that bring Chinese lineages into conversation with contemporary noise and embodied technology. Their work moves through themes of body dysmorphia, queerness, and spirituality that draws audiences into a physical kind of listening where sound feels intimate, unstable, and sometimes unsettling. Last night, composer-artist-performer Qiujiang Levi Lu debuted a new work—‘Taking Over’—at the historic auditorium in Johnson-Kaplan Hall of the New School. The piece is for five trumpets, reconsidered as resonance feedback chambers, generated by an intraoral speaker amplified through Lu’s nostrils, ear canals, and mouth. Lu created the piece during their residency in Curating Sound, a course taught by Nick Hallett in the Contemporary Music Department at Eugene Lang College, and funded by a CLA grant. Lang students supported all aspects of Levi’s concert—promotion, lighting, sound, front-of-house, and documentation. A big thank you to all who made it possible! Video by Nik Malyshev

【Evening Concert Series: Weston Olencki + Qiujiang Levi Lu + Audrey Chen + Li-Chin Li】 2026.05.05 (Tue) 19:30 door | 20:00 music 10–20€ sliding scale (on the door/cash only) encounters bookspace Prinzenallee 60, 13359 Berlin Weston Olencki @wolencki is an artist and musician from South Carolina, living now in Berlin. Their projects position musical instruments as sites of cultural inscription, working fluidly between experimental sound, traditional musics, and their various space/time(s). Qiujiang Levi Lu @levi.lu1 builds custom feedback systems and cyborg-like augmentations inspired by objectophilia and animism. Their ritualistic performances draw from ancient Chinese drumming traditions and unfold as visceral improvisations that confront body dysmorphia, sexuality, spirituality, and mortality. Audrey Chen @audrey.isabel.chen is a 2nd generation Chinese/Taiwanese-American musician. Using the voice, cello and analog electronics, Chen’s work delves deeply into her own version of narrative and non-linear storytelling. A large component of her music is improvised, is completely un-processed and her approach to this is extremely personal and visceral. Li-Chin Li @lilichin1111 is a Sheng soloist, composer, and performer working between Taiwan and Europe. She studied Chinese music at the Tainan National University of the Arts where she explored traditional and contemporary practices. She joined the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra as a Sheng performer, before transitioning into an independent artistic practice.
