this melody from the
@warpduo opera was born from a years-long melancholy; the sadness with the state of the world, of growing distance from the people i love, and of a long alienation i felt, from even music itself.
since the large breaks i went through of 2024, of my violin, my wrist, and my computer, it was impossible to not feel broken, and like some sort of death had occurred within me. eventually, this joint endeavor with
@levi.lu1 to create this concert became a container for my grief, and my latent joy & hope for the world.
i remember writing this movement in one fever dream evening just days before the premiere, in pure ecstasy. after months of thinking about this movement, finally writing it felt like flying, through my deepest pains and greatest hopes for the world, my most urgent prayers. in hours, it was completed. in it lies some of my dearest inspirations: Ryuichi Sakamoto's "hwit", a melody of
@havancloud , and even the divine inspiration of Bach's music. it contains my heart at its most longing, and perhaps most fiercely sincere.
with the organ and its echoes of spiritual divinity, and with my repaired violin and its unique power of worldless song, i am reaching together with levi for prayer, for ritual, and for sincerity.
you can listen to the movement in its entirety on the
@issueprojectroom archives, as well as on our YouTube channel, where the whole opera now lives. thank you for listening :")
