We launched a beer! New Edition is a hazy pale ale created by Left Handed Giant (@lefthandedgiantbrewing ) to celebrate our 50th anniversary, featuring limited-edition can artwork by Spike Island artists Jo Lathwood (@jo_lathwood ), Samuel Fordham (@samuelwjfordham ) and Cliff Andrade (@mrcliffywiffy ). Last Thursday, we marked the launch at LHG’s brewery and bar in Finzels Reach, with each artist sharing the ideas and process behind their designs, and how they approached this unique opportunity. We’re so excited to be working with the Left Handed Giant team again this year, following last year’s can collaboration. Left Handed Giant has teamed up with @spikeisland art gallery to create a new beer, with limited edition artwork labels by Spike Island Artists, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Spike Island’s artist community! Join us at the Left Handed Giant Brewpub in Finzels Reach for a beer tasting, an art exhibition, and a series of short talks by the artists, introducing the themes and processes behind their artworks. Thursday 16th April at @lhgbrewpub 𝐌𝐞𝐞𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐬 🎨 @mrcliffywiffy – A printmaker, photographer, painter and performer, whose research-led practice explores issues of class, migration, belonging, place and history. @samuelwjfordham – A photographer, printmaker and educator. Samuel’s practice is community-led and focuses on the presence of lived experience and photography’s material form. @jo_lathwood – A queer artist whose practice spans drawing, moving image, sculptural works, and large-scale installations. The beer will then be launched publicly at Spike Island Open Studios 2026, from 1-3 May – the hugely popular annual event offering free behind-the-scenes access to Spike Island’s sprawling art spaces and galleries and a vibrant programme of exhibitions, events and activities.
