Thank you @thequietus for including us in your Highlights of Supersonic 2026! “Enter Traidora to ramp up the energy. Their message is a direct one. “I’s about being gay and being radical,” says frontwoman Eva LaBlanc, as she and her band blister through a no-nonsense set of spartan punk rock, backed by images of queer performers, artists and musicians from years past - Wendy Carlos, Marsha P. Johnson, Anaïs Nin and more. “There are no safe cities” for trans people, LaBlanc reminds us while catching her breath. “No safe countries, no safe continent. The intensity ups further and further as they go; the band hitting their stride more with each attack. Towards the end, the screen changes to show members of the indigenous Mapuche nation who live in areas now claimed by Argentina and Chile (where LaBlanc grew up), as she redirects attention to the way they have been subject to decades-long violent oppression from those countries governments (Mapuche representatives have accused them of genocide and crimes against humanity). “Not many people talk about them because not many people care about them,” she says. Though her vocals in the songs themselves are primarily in Spanish, a language I don’t speak, there is no missing the message here. Bracing and urgent, Traidora’s ser is proof that sometimes the direct approach is the most effective”
