@vogueitalia , January 2026 issue, “What does family mean to you?” In a world increasingly shaped by emotional (and not only emotional) uncertainty, the January issue of #VogueItalia, dedicated to values, invited seven young Italian photographers, myself included, to explore this question through our own perspectives. A winter spent on an island in the middle of the Mediterranean. A little more then 300 people to share it with, one 12h ferry per week that brings water, fresh goods and news from Naples, sometimes the sea is rough and the ferry skips the stop, one more week has to pass for the next one. This is topped by the absurdity of being on the most active vulcano in Europe, persistently erupting every 10/20 minutes since 2000 year. Stromboli, especially when empty form the summer tourism, silent and quiet, has been pulling me back sine my first residency with @tagli____ in 2021.

The ranking of finalist projects for the Perimetro Awards 2025 continues: today we reveal positions from 7th to 5th place. 6th place, three projects ex aequo: TRUCKING by Pietro Lazzaris @lazzarispietro “These images tell the story of a life that is often invisible: faces marked by time, worn hands, the loneliness of a home that coincides with the place where the truck is parked for the night. Once lively and filled with camaraderie, the cafeterias at truck stops now appear desolate. Drivers, often isolated and under pressure, feel the freedom of the open road growing increasingly constrained.” Pietro Lazzaris is a photographer based in Paris. Primarily focused on portraiture, his practice reflects a deep interest in human connection, identity, and the ways lives overlap, combining an intimate approach with a documentary sensibility. WHERE THE WEST ENDS by Marco Waldis @mwaldis “Where the West Ends explores the boundaries of the American imagination through the town of Forks, in the Pacific Northwest — a place that represents the symbolic limit of U.S. westward expansion, and whose inhabitants still embody the frontier spirit that has long shaped American identity.” Marco Waldis (Milan, 1987) is an Italian photographer and filmmaker. He primarily produces long-term documentary projects that investigate the social, political, and cultural complexities of territories in transition. UNTIL THE CORN GROWS BACK by Lys Arango @lys_arango “Climate change is destroying the crops of hundreds of thousands of small-scale farmers, fueling a humanitarian crisis: in Guatemala, one child in two suffers from chronic malnutrition, the highest rate in Latin America and the Caribbean. More than four million people in the country lack adequate access to food, disproportionately affecting Indigenous Maya communities, custodians of maize cultivation. This story takes us through the villages of the ‘Dry Corridor,’ where chronic malnutrition affects up to 80% of the population.” Lys Arango is a Spanish documentary photographer born in Madrid and based in Paris. #PerimetroAwards #2025 #PietroLazzaris #MarcoWaldis #LysArango

@vogueitalia , January 2026 issue, “What does family mean to you?” Rossana’s morning routine was impeccable: her face washed with freezing cold water, before applying rollers, lipstick and make up. Always a timely start for the early bird that she was, her days jam-packed with life and work, work and more work. Later in life, work gave way to walks on the beach, village dances and golf tournaments. A life spent seeking beauty in the mundane, she navigated the years with eccentricity yet equally remained reserved and stubborn. Rossanna was all flashy hairstyles and a stylishly tacky wardrobe. With Alzheimer’s, Rossana struggles to be the one we’ve known. These moments - in these clothes, make up and hair styles - provided glimpses of that magic. 60 second fragments of borrowed time brought us, and her, back to the grandmother I remember. While listening to trucker and folk musician ‘Long Haul Paul’ (Marhoefer) wax rhapsodically about his days and nights on his Over the Road podcast a few years back, photographer Pietro Lazzaris first felt the call of the wild. But it wasn’t until the summer of 2024 during a trip to Texas that he put pedal to the metal and embarked on Trucking – Today’s America as Seen From the Cab, an intimate series chronicling this quintessentially American brotherhood. Gaining entrance into a world so far removed from his own was no easy task; Lazzaris undertook research, sent emails, and explained himself but was largely met by a wall of silence. Undeterred, he kept on trucking until he struck gold: the annual Tom ‘Uncle Bear’ Safford, Sr Memorial Truck Show held in Norwich, held in a tiny town in upstate New York during September 2024. Lazzaris sent the organiser a long email and finally received a response: “Cool, see you there.” Unwittingly mistaking casual dismissal for an open invitation, he showed up, much to the organiser’s surprise. “He didn’t really trust me, I later found out,” he says. I’ve always found it hard to sit still especially when on holiday. Some summers ago, while on Stromboli island, I started this botanical collection of all the indigenous plants that make this unusual Macchia Mediterranea.

These images are from the lowlands of Ravenna. The place where I was born. A place of memories and quiet transformation, there I’ve recently discovered and explored the world of local hunters Some images will be shown starting next Sunday on the seaside of Rimini, as part of the open air exhibition Confine Marea, organized by @mindmareafestival , and will be on view until the end of January 2026.
