Stabat mater
———
As nerdy as it may sound, Terminator 2: the judgement day has always been one of my favourite movies.
When the robot first asks John Connor “Why you humans cry?”, he, a badass kid who always has the right answer, replies “I don’t know. We just cry. You know, when it hurts”.
It’s actually pretty hard to explain the reasons we cry. Yet, at the end of the movie, after a long series of crazy things happened and a deep bond has grown between the robot and the kid, in the most poignant scene, when the Terminator has to terminate itself, at the sight of John sobbing, the machine says “I know now why you cry, but it’s something I can never do”.
It made me cry the first time I watched it as a kid, same effect today as a grown man.
The difference is the world we live in. When the movie was released, it was just super cool action sci-fi entertainment. Today, only three decades later, no laser guns, no spaceships yet, but we’re getting used to have conversations with machines in our everyday life, with AI softwares that are pretty helpful and somehow seem very good at understanding the depth of human emotions. Yet they can’t cry.
Tears are humans’ most primordial language, they go beyond our full understanding and our full control. Sometimes we can try to force ourselves from crying, yet tears just happen, just like life happens, out of our control.
We just cry, you know, when it hurts, and no matter how deep is our suffering, those tears, heavy as rocks, show that we’re broken, but still surviving, we’re still alive, no matter how thick the darkness around us.
And sometimes we cry when that weight is lifted, when light comes back, when something that was taken returns, when something we fought for is eventually conquered.
We can cry tears of sorrow on Friday, and tears of joy on Sunday.
Something dies, something is born again.
We are vulnerable beings, living a continuous cycle of endings and beginnings.
That’s something the most powerful quantum AI whatever processor will never be able to fully understand. It’s something it can never do, at least I hope so

Spray and acrylic paint on wall
Camastra (Sicily) 2025
Dedication to the shepherds, to those who gave us food, to those who gave us folk tales and traditions, to those who know the Earth and the Animals as well as themselves. Weaned on donkey’s milk if their mothers had no milk for them. Raised on the smell of orange peels warmed by the fireplace.
To my shamans with their hands dirty with earth, who listen to the mountains, read the stars, and predict the pregnancies of their animals.
I photographed this shepherd in the Nebrodi mountains a few years ago, and I returned to my island to finally dedicate this work to him.

Ride Slow. Ride Authentic 🚲
That's how we experienced the Comitini E-bike tour last Saturday.
Places we visited are a genuine mix of mystery gems and historical spots.
We rode through the landscapes, felt the history, and were surrounded by real people and small businesses here. They truly trust in responsible tourism as an alternative economy, and you feel that trust in every interaction.
Ending the ride covered in dust and fueled by nothing but good, fresh bread with high quality honey 🍯🍞
