“Il popolo del bosco”, spray paint on agricultural sheets, site-specific installation created as part of the Forestiera project in Cerretto Langhe, in the Langhe region (Italy).
A tribute to people who spent their childhood and adolescence in close contact with the woods of this region, gathering the fruits that the trees have always offered. I found a connection between the trees and their “wrinkles,” and the elderly who now live in this land, full of wisdom and simplicity.
Faces emerge from a landscape of leaves. The portraits blend with the branches of the trees, symbolizing the bond that human beings are gradually losing with nature. We are made of leaves; we have roots and branches.
Nature follows a cycle: leaves fall, but life continues and renews itself. This is how I learned that autumn resembles old age: colors change, energies fade, and silent stories remain hidden within wrinkles. Like trees that lose their leaves, in old age we also let something go, yet the strength given during one’s lifetime becomes nourishment for those who will come after.
I met the residents of the nursing home “La Pineta”, I photographed them to capture a moment. To remember, because perhaps one of the greatest fears of human beings is precisely that of being forgotten.
A special thank-you to Davide, Elisa, and Don Valerio, and to my model, Antonio, who helped, guided, and made me smile throughout this meaningful experience. I will always carry a piece of the Langhe with me.
