An open letter to “my people.” Inspired by @intelligentmischief 1. What if we loved our families enough to change? 2. What if we exercised the second amendment to protect our families? 3. What if we created communities of safety and support? 4. What if we held ourselves accountable like grown adults? 5. What if we took responsibility for our health: mental, spiritual, and physical? 6. What if prioritizing our health led to community resilience & harmony? 7. What if we valued profit over ego and exchanged our professional skills in community economies? 8. What if healing ourselves was the first step in non-violent resistance to predatory systems? 9. What if fostering empathy and respect within our households reduced conflicts outside our households? 10. What if we educated our own kids? 11. What if we kept focus on our family goals even during elections, playoffs, superbowls, or other circus games? 12. What if we protected the minds of our children like they contained the futures of the World. 13. What if we allowed our kids to find identity in their family values and unique gifts rather than letting the state or pop-stars dictate identities to them? 14. What if we actually made efforts to protect our kids from social programming? 15. What if families gathered resources and bought land both domestic and abroad. 16. What if people learned bushcraft? (It’s pretty cool!) 17. What if we taught each other self-defense skills that increased our confidence and sense of security? 18. What if community-led projects did the work the community needed regardless of who was president? 19. What if building strong alliances and support networks could amplify our impact and reach? 20. What if everyone in the community felt a sense of belonging and purpose? 21. What if Christians made actual efforts to live like Christ? 22. What if Muslims shared the message of God as Muhammad shared with them? 23. What if Atheist spread love in this lifetime because what else is there? 24. What if strategic media campaigns could change negative perceptions and promote positive narratives? 25. What if we lived out our ancestors’ wildest dreams? #different

I had the distinct honor of interviewing Mama Ayo Handy-Kendi, founder of the national holiday Black Love Day (Feb 13). When I asked her about her vision of victory for the Black community, her answer was as profound as it was simple. You might wanna listen to this one a couple times. Love. Loving ourselves. Doing for ourselves. Clear. Insightful. Powerful. To learn more about Mama Ayo or Black Love Day, do yourself a favor and look her up. Share our living legends. When I was 3 years old, someone asked what I wanted to be when I grew up. I said, “A Power Ranger.” He told me that wasn’t a real job. So I pointed at the TV and asked what that was. He said, “Hollywood.” From that day on, I knew I wanted to ‘do’ Hollywood. Years later, from photographing Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week to assisting Antoine Fuqua on action film sets, I’ve seen how much intention, money, labor, and vision go into the stories that shape public imagination. And I still believe that film gives people language for feelings and ideas they may not know how to express. The magic isn’t just in the spectacle of a movie, but also in its subtext. It’s in seeing some part of your own story, challenges, or dreams reflected back to you. Holding my friend’s Emmys was a surreal moment that helped me remember that results are inevitable when real work meets your God-given vision. If you’re an actor, writer, director, DP, or another creative in Atlanta with Hollywood dreams, DM me and let’s work on sharing these stories that shape audience. Let’s build a better world. If you know artists in Atlanta, please share my page with somebody who should know me. And if you want photos or video content that show yourself with strength, style, and intention, I’m offering shoots starting at $100 for a limited time. Thank you to @stagepassatl for the opportunity to direct scenes from “Girls Trip” by @darrickwatkinsjr and “The Prize” by @drlouisjonesofficial . Grateful for the trust, the collaboration, and every chance to keep growing as a director. Seeing my name on the slate is so gratifying after a decade of working behind the scenes to make my friends’ films come to life. More stories on the way. More work to do.

Had a great time at the screening of #NewbornMovie by @origi_nate and @davidoyelowo , hosted by @setlife.atl and followed by a thoughtful panel discussion with @randivdaniels @dayookeniyi and @arriannamarie . It was inspiring to get Dayo’s insights on the actor’s creative process and engage with the film beyond the plot and dig into the meaning of the story. One of the calls from the evening was to watch @thealabamasolution as a supplemental piece to better understand the psychological effects of solitary confinement from another perspective. I’d encourage anybody reading this to seek it out and consider taking action, even in a small but human way, like becoming a pen pal to someone who is incarcerated. I’ve had family members in jail, so I know how important connection from the outside can be. A voice from beyond the walls can be a light. It can help someone hold onto their mental health, their physical health, and their hope for returning to life with dignity. It was a pleasure meeting the hosts, and I’m looking forward to attending more #SetLifeATL events. Big thanks to my bro @darrickwatkinsjr for the ticket!

Last night I attended a special screening of the Toni Cade Bambara documentary [ @tcb_doc ] at Spelman College, beginning with a reception featuring the Spelman College Jazz Ensemble, followed by the film and a panel discussion with filmmaker @louis.massiah , Toni Cade Bambara scholars, writers, activists, and Bambara’s granddaughter, @zobambara . The evening honored Toni’s enduring legacy as a cultural worker, writer, and activist whose work gives us a blueprint to continue a legacy of liberation. I was especially excited to see @zeinabu_i_davis appear among the interviewees, and to witness how the film gathered so many voices in thoughtful reflection around Toni’s life and influence. Thank you to Jeannine A. Cook [ @itsmetheyfollow ] for the invitation, and thank you to afrowomanistspirit for introducing me to TCB’s work.

Grateful to @camkirkstudios #NightSchool, @Anisabrenee , and guest @imaniimani for such a thoughtful and inspiring evening. And a huge thank you to @chanel_bee for the invitation! Hearing about creativity, community-building, and intentional entrepreneurship was a needed reminder that meaningful work grows best when it is rooted in vision and collaboration. Thank you to the organizers for creating space for purposeful conversation. I had a great time and made a couple friends. Excited to keep building in Atlanta!
