There’s a rowdy looseness throughout @ryanbinghamofficial and the @texasgentlemen ’s first, official joint appearance on record — songs slowly shudder to a stop; several tracks open with studio chatter before the musicians let it rip — which evokes the feeling of artistic synchronicity. The Grammy-winning New Mexico native has collaborated with the Dallas-based band previously (the 2024 album Live at Red Rocks), but this is the first studio effort with the musicians, who augment Bingham’s flinty, romantic and punchy roots rock. They Call Us The Lucky Ones, Bingham’s first full-length project in seven years, following 2019’s American Love Song, is out today, May 15. 🔗 Read about the record at the link in bio. 📸 Colt Oder

Emcee Cameron McCloud and producers Jay Analog and Tomahawk Jonez form the core of Cure For Paranoia, but this year’s Tiny Desk Contest entry, like others in the past, includes additional musicians. “The most impressive thing about this band is that every entry has been like a completely different presentation,” said Bobby Carter, Tiny Desk host and series producer, on a recent episode of “Top Shelf.” “This band, and this emcee Cameron, they are unbelievable.” Watch the full conversation between McCloud and KERA’s Marcheta Fornoff at the link in bio.

Winning NPR’s Tiny Desk Contest still hasn’t sunk in for Cameron McCloud, frontman and co-founder of Cure for Paranoia. “I’m not gonna believe that it’s happening until I’m behind that little desk,” McCloud told KERA News shortly after hearing the news. The Dallas hip-hop collective has been making music together for 10 years, and has entered the contest for the past four. This year, the group filmed their entry in front of a 30-foot sculpture of an eyeball downtown. McCloud said that the band, which also includes producers Jay Analog and Tomahawk Jonez, wanted to make sure that viewers knew they were from Dallas. “And girl, if that didn’t work, we was just going to skydive off of Reunion Tower and play music, I guess,” McCloud joked. He recently sat down for a video interview with the station to talk about what the win means to his band, how North Texas has shaped him as a person and as a musician, and the importance of his late mother’s support. It may be Eric Nadel’s birthday, but he’s the one offering up the gifts. Nadel, the voice of the Texas Rangers, mental health advocate and an avowed live music fan often seen out and about at concerts across North Texas, is turning 75 this year. To celebrate, he’s throwing the 14th annual Eric Nadel Birthday Benefit Concert on May 14 at the Longhorn Ballroom. The event will feature co-headlining performances from the Brooklyn-based Sammy Rae and the Friends and San Francisco’s Chuck Prophet and His Cumbia Shoes. 🔗 Full story at the link in bio. 📸 Eric Nadel (@rangersvoice )

There are some shows that take you by surprise, make you feel something, and give you a newfound sense of understanding of an artist that you may have known about for years. Dallas artist @zyahmusic did all of those things and more on Saturday night at the South Dallas Cultural Center, as she made her headlining debut in the Music Lounge presented by Swan Strings. Check out scenes from the event at the link in bio. 📸 Jessica Waffles / @wafflesweekly
