Yesterday, I received my very first piece of fan mail, and it was from a man in a Texas prison 🤯 My first reaction was like… whhhhaaatttt nooo waaaayyy thhaatt’sss craazzzyyy!? My fellow radio DJs told me it’s a rite of passage to receive correspondence from jail. Jeff Pennfield said he’s even received calls from jail. Honestly, reading this hand-typed note from a man I never met, who is incarcerated for a crime I may never know was pretty surreal. I did look him up, but could only find that he is scheduled to be in prison for the next 10 years. I told my sister about it, and what she said really stuck with me: “I love it. That is amazing. I don’t think you understand how much it means for someone in jail or prison to find constant comfort that is not attached to family or friends. I would be cautious, of course. But congratulations on reaching people in the darkest of places.” I’m very thankful for my current role in this world. Doing my best to do my best. It’s nice to know your efforts can have a positive effect on even 1 person. I hope to reach as many as possible. It’s hard to argue with what everyone’s excited about - my first time seeing them live on Friday was a treat to be remembered. @lukasnelsonofficial has been one of my favorite shows this year so far. He was a sweet soul on stage and a great performer. He kept the audience engaged, made a lot of eye contact with the crowd and sounded better than the record. What a gem. Grateful ✨
