Meet the curator! Op 23 mei opent WAYWARD SANCTUARIES in De Garage, gecureerd door @leanaboven — curator, schrijver en onderzoeker met roots in Paramaribo. Haar werk richt zich op gemeenschap, solidariteit, diasporische identiteit en antikoloniale praktijken. Ze cureerde tentoonstellingen bij onder andere MAMA, Casco Art Institute en Gemaal op Zuid, is momenteel curator bij Stroom Den Haag en docent aan de Design Academy Eindhoven. Met WAYWARD SANCTUARIES brengt ze 15 deelnemers van POC POC samen, het mentoringprogramma van The Constant Now, rond de urgente vraag: hoe bouw je een thuis in een wereld die voortdurend verandert? De groepstentoonstelling is het resultaat van een tweejarig traject van ontmoeting, uitwisseling en ontwikkeling. ENG Meet the curator! On 23 May, WAYWARD SANCTUARIES opens at De Garage, curated by Leana Boven — a curator, writer and researcher with roots in Paramaribo. Her work focuses on community, solidarity, diasporic identity and anti-colonial practices. She has curated exhibitions at MAMA, Casco Art Institute and Gemaal op Zuid, and is currently a curator at Stroom Den Haag and a tutor at the Design Academy Eindhoven. With WAYWARD SANCTUARIES, she brings together 15 participants from POC POC — The Constant Now’s mentoring programme — around the urgent question: how do you build a home in a world that is constantly shifting? The group exhibition is the result of a two-year trajectory of encounter, exchange and development.

Op de gevel kan van de Garage kan je de volgende poster uit de PLAKT serie zien. In RE/SET (2024) van Peter Downsbrough zie je een gekantelde rechthoek met de woorden RE en SET. Als een van zijn laatste creaties kan het gelezen worden als een stille oproep om nooit stil te vallen, maar steeds opnieuw te beginnen. Een RESET. PLAKT is een samenwerking met @artlead waarin posters van twaalf kunstenaars getoond worden in verschillende steden in België. EN On the façade of de Garage the next poster from the PLAKT series has been hung. In Peter Downsbrough's RE/SET (2024) you see a tilted rectangle with the words RE and SET. As one of his last creations, the work can be read as a silent call to never come a standstill, but to always restart. A reset. Donderdag 7 mei kan je een performance van @line_boogaerts & Ditmar Goes meepikken in het kader van de Artist Talks, een samenwerking tussen Kunsthal Mechelen en @academiemechelen In hun performance tekenen ze live op glasplaten. Lijnen, vlekken, reflecties en klanken verstoren het directe zicht en horen. Geluid, tekst en beweging reageren op elkaar. It's part of the Artist Talks series, a collaboration between Kunsthal Mechelen and Academie Mechelen. In their performance, they draw live on glass plates. Lines, stains, reflections, and sounds disrupt direct seeing and hearing. Sound, text, and movement respond to one another, creating an open dialogue in which chance and disruption shape the direction. Vorige week kwam curatorencollectief @dismonnom_ naar Mechelen. Tijdens een korte onderzoeksresidentie ontmoetten ze @erfgoedcelmechelen en de vrijwilligers van de @hanswijkprocessie en @reuzenmechelen die hen meer vertelden over processies en parades in de stad. We geven een klein tipje van de sluier: het thema van hun tentoonstelling zit in één van de foto's verborgen! De opening belooft alvast een groot feest mét parade te zijn. Zet daarvoor alvast 6 maart 2027 in je agenda en mis het zeker niet! We bedanken graag iedereen die ons ontvangen heeft voor de gastvrijheid en inspiratie! EN Last week we had the collective Dis Mon Nom visiting us in Mechelen. During a short research residency they met with the Heritage Unit of Mechelen and the volunteers behind the Hanswijk procession and the Giants of Mechelen, telling them about processions and parades in the city. For now we'll only give a little tease: the theme of the exhibition is hidden in one of the photographs! In any case the opening will bring a big parade and celebration.
