Been connected with my guy @kproetic on IG here for a bit now and it’s always been great vibes! His recent video definitely caught me off guard in the best way possible. A high profile record deal at a young age meant high expectations. In some cases, unrealistic ones, whether self-set or by others. When those expectations aren’t met, it’s easy to fall into the mindset of “mannn how did this happen”. Took me some time, honest soul searching and immense grace from God, but I’ve definitely been able to see what a unique and fruitful journey it’s been; the beauty is in the mess. It would be disingenuous for me to say the record sales and accolades were not the end goal, but when it’s all said and done, to know my craft ignited a spark in someone to unlock their own potential is an achievement that transcends any plaque or metric. All I can say is, BEYOND GRATEFUL. 🙌💯🙏
Inspiration can come from many places.
In regard to hip hop, one of my earliest influences was @iammcjin .
A 19-year-old Chinese kid from Miami had a huge impact on a 11-year-old Haitian kid from Jersey.
That’s the power of hip hop. 💯

The year is 2008. I’m 18.
As I was growing as an MC, my goal was to be as lyrical as possible.
Use big words in every line.
Use multi-syllable rhyme patterns.
Use internal rhyme patterns.
At the time, I was proud of this verse.
I wrote it to “Black Republicans” by Nas in the Essex County College library at 17.
My plan was to rap it to KRS-One when I met him. Ain’t happen.
Now, I realized that the verse had some substance but it was just a lot of big words strung together.
No flow. No punches. No moments.
However, it was a pivotal moment in my writing history ✍🏾
Over the years, as I got better at songwriting, I learned the importance of incorporating more engaging elements in a single verse.
I learned that from my R.E.A.L Music brothers. 🫡
