I recently completed the Metamorph Residency for artists to learn about biological and ecological change 🪼 @the.biophilium So much love to Alexis for hosting such a fascinating space and the scientists speaking about shapeshifters, swamps, life cycles, insects, ferns, moss, slime, jellyfish, and the @museum_of_infinite_outcomes 🐜 Extra thanks to CVAN and Wigan Council for funding my experience 💚

Thanks for having me as a guest lecturer @ljmu 🍰 I've been speaking to the wonderful business and arts students and graduates about wearing many hats, creating feel good networks, ways of motivating our future entrepreneurial self, and goal setting 🥧

Thank you @the_bluecoat and @futureartscentres for inviting me to build this with you 🩵 I have found my own unexpected freedoms through producing this project. I have been so lucky to work on my own terms flexibly, with colleagues that allow me to be myself completely. To learn about individual and alternative freedoms from young and old thinkers. To supporting an artist who speaks her truth so clearly - she makes me feel clear too. I have watched our carefully curated gallery space fill and fill with hopeful papers, voices, stories, ideas and affirmations which now stand proud and layered in the gallery windows. A gorgeous week in London to celebrate the launch of Our Freedom: Then and Now at @southbankcentre - with thanks to @the_bluecoat and @futureartscentres for their trust and never ending opportunities over the past 8 months. I'm feeling so proud to have facilitated artists @anooshots and @yaqeen_photography from @openeyegallery to capture their projects. Visit the exhibition at Southbank for free until 25th April 🚀 Then, the exhibition will be touring arts centres and libraries from the South West all the way up to the Highlands until 30th Oct. We're working with students from @wiganleighcollege to curate and install Wigan Open Exhibition 🪩 @wiganarts The students have done a great job so far, creating judging criteria, selecting works, grouping the themes, and considering thoughtful ways to respond to artist applicants. Come and see the final exhibition from Wednesday 18th - Tuesday 24th March, 12pm - 6pm 🆓️🩷

OUR 'ROOM' RESIDENCY IS BACK! Applications are now open. 💗 Me and @annafcsmith can't wait to select and meet the new cohort! ⤵️ Reposted from @theoldcourts Last year, we launched ROOM, our artist residency pilot scheme in partnership with TERM Art Classes. Throughout the 6 months, we supported 14 artist residencies and saw them thrive in their studio spaces. So, with a couple of months away to reflect and reshape, ROOM.2 is born! We invite local artists (or those with links to Wigan borough) to apply to create, experiment, and develop their work, with a focus on those interested in exploring new ideas, engaging with the community, and pushing creative boundaries. The 5 week residency will begin on 2nd March and end on 4th April 2026. Using 2 spaces at The Old Courts, 3 chosen artists will need be committed to using the space consistently throughout the programme, whether during the day or evenings to ensure consistent progress on their project. In addition to studio space, there will be opportunities to exhibit, discuss work plus additional developmental support. Klaire Doyle is the next Artist we've invited to do an Artist Talk at Street and a Half, called "How to make the Most of your Studio." exploring how we build a meaningful relationship with the spaces we work in - this is on Tuesday 24th February at 5-6pm. In this illustrated talk, Klaire will share thoughts and simple activities to help us think about studio habits, rituals, boundaries and how to make the most of whatever space we have. You’re welcome to join earlier in the day for co-working and informal chats as part of the Soup-er Session and stay for the 5pm talk. There’ll be a pan of soup on too. Wigan is getting a new 70,000 sq ft Market Hall later this year. So @annafcsmith and @helencmather have taken over Redmans stall @wiganmarket_ to soak up market life as we currently know it, chat, and make 💬 I had a great day yesterday manning the stall as an artist in residence. Conversations and sights included "the best winklepickers", delicious jumbo spring rolls, dogs as regular chicken nugget customers, "blueberry jam for mum", and slimming world sausages 🌭 Drop by on Fridays and pick up free zines and posters created with market visitors.
