TALK OF THE TOWN - CALL OUT FOR FOOTAGE! 📱 🎥 What’s a favourite Margate Pride memory you keep coming back to? It has been a whole ten years of colour, cardboard, community, courage and joy on the streets, beaches and venues of Margate, from one day to a range of events yearly. To mark this milestone, Margate Pride is creating Talk of the Town - a new film that captures what Margate Pride means to them. Made in collaboration with poet Kit Griffiths @kit_griffiths Talk of the Town will weave together footage from our community with Kit's words, and we're calling on anyone who has ever felt part of Margate Pride to share their moments with us. WE WANT YOUR FOOTAGE! Whether that is landscape or portrait, polished or raw, filmed on a phone or a camera. From the loud and proud to the quiet and intimate, from big headline events to the small moments that happen year-round. 📢🚨 IN-PERSON poetry workshop for all at The Romantic of Margate 🏡🌴🌴 THIS THURSDAY 12th Feb 11am-1pm Please share with your ✨️retired, freelance, unemployed babes✨️ - I'll have weekend workshops in the near future! BOOKING ESSENTIAL - LINK IN BIO 🎟🎟 £12, £6 or FREE Join us for a relaxed 90 min workshop (2 hours with the coffee and chatting time after). We'll read 3 poems - one on self-love, one on romance, and one on friendship - with a simple exercise after each poem. This is suitable for all abilities including total beginners. I just want us to get together for my favourite celebration of the year, perhaps resulting in you having poems to gift to yourselves, your lovers or your friends. There will also (always) be some art for sale by me and our other founding artists. For WS pricing I'm following a formula that we'll try to stick to at The Romantic, which is 10 places total, with 6 full price, 2 half price, and 2 totally free. Please choose the ticket appropriate to your situation, and bear in mind that tea, coffee and posh cookies are included. No questions will be asked. NB: this is not a funded workshop - if it were then more tickets would be free. Ground floor wheelchair accessible space (driveway is bit wonky but I'll be there to help). Thank you @theatredeli @unembarrassable and @michaelboffey for this one. I wrote it two years ago today, 11th of November 2023, when mist came across Trinity Square while I watched the memorial ceremony from my doorstep. You can hear me talking a bit more about my views on our one humanity to reckon with, and the stickiness of being anti-militarist, on last Saturday's @margateradio show 'Strangers in the Night' which should be online this week. 🤍❤️ IN NOVEMBER I leave the house and enter a grounded cloud. The tip of my nose is bitten with fear of features removed -  which flag and which face  does that figure carry towards or away? Am I safe to wonder, at the crunch of blades beneath my feet, the twinkling silver world, in which I might find a pool of gold mist melting away.  Rifling through the light, am I safe to believe that the same Jack who just cracked the roots of a strawberry plant also split the outer skins  off apple, sage and  lavender seeds allowing them to sprout.  Can I find it natural, this November day, to leave the house and enter  the clarity of a cloud, seeking out neither friend nor foe but every fumbling shadow every blundering soul smidging and smudging through this heaven come low. #rememberanceday

This is a relaxed BYOB evening salon with nibbles provided. We'll likely go over 2 hours with chatting, music and games etc. while the readings, workshop and sharing will be complete by 8.30. Booking in advance - only ten tickets available, but we might create a second salon date if this books up, so let your interest be known! Dress: queer joy. Kit will likely be in a suit. 🚨 📢 NEW PROJECT & RADIO SHOW 📢 🚨 12 noon Saturday 12th July ☺️🙌🏻 Listen live from anywhere in the world at the Margate Radio website... Tomorrow as I post, maybe Today as you read, STRANGERS IN THE NIGHT is my new project devoted entirely to strangers. In a time when we are encouraged and given plenty of reason to fear each other, I'll be sharing stories of falling in love with strangers all over town. (And I mean ALL over town - the Police Station, Bugsy's, the actual friggin beach...) The show will kick off every month with a segment called 'Total Stranger' - I'll arrive at the studio 30 mins before we go live and (fingers crossed) convince someone in the area to open the show with me. Performance and poetry work will happen throughout each month - you might see me and my Union Jack set up with a desk on the Main Sands - and I'll share titbits on the radio as well as curating a tracklist of music in response to who I meet.
