Our sweet girl turned 4! As requested by the birthday girl, here is the “Pink strawberry cake” 🎂
First time for me to make a strawberry flavored cake (used real strawberry puree from frozen berries). I sourced the recipe online which I try not to do because I increasingly don’t trust the internet and hate recipe blog websites (the pop ups ugh) and prefer an actual cook book, but alas, Joy of Cooking had NO strawberry cake recipe! Overall this cake got 2 thumbs up for taste however I do wish it was even pinker!

The Mermaid inspired birthday cake 🧜♀️ for my now 3 year old 🤯 where has time gone!!
Cake details include, 6-layer chocolate cake (as requested) with Italian Meringue Buttercream. I used a spoon to make the scales but in hindsight it’s kinda messy and difficult to get even so there prolly a better way 🤷♀️
Side notes, she did in fact frost all the center layers (I can’t do much in the kitchen without her “help” these days 😅

This is the first day I’ve had cell service since friday, thanks to all those that reached out! My family and I are safe, hurricane Helene sure did a number on WNC. The word devastation doesn’t even begin to cover the damage that’s happened. I’ve seen my fair share of blizzards up north and the 2020 Derecho in IA, but this is truly unreal. We are beyond grateful that our home and studio escaped damage but so many others have not. Our prayers go out to them. Homes and businesses have literally washed away. Many, including us, are still without power or water. Immense aid and so much rebuilding is going to be needed here.

Last 3 slides are of new US70 in Swannanoa (on the way to our studio) that’s a 5 lane road that’s barely passable one car at a time.

Strawberry Rhubarb pie 🍓🍓🍓
Picked some local berries with the toddler a few weeks ago (so as you can imagine this pie is long gone)
This was my first time attempting a lattice crust and she didn’t even boil over! 🙌
