In partnership with CERF+ Craft Emergency Relief Fund, the Rio Grande “Sweeps for CERF” program accepts sweeps from you and other jewelers as donations to help craftspeople across the United States. The sweeps from Rio Grande's own production work go into the effort as well and, together, we all make a positive difference. Rather than letting your sweeps sit for years in your shop or discarding them into a landfill, please consider putting them to positive use to help support craftspeople through disasters and other emergencies. Amy Smith (dance/theater artist, educator, facilitator and tax preparer) will guide you through learning more about the barriers that often prevent artists from achieving financial well-being, as well as practical tools and tips for moving closer to (or staying in) financial well-being. Topics include valuing your time & negotiating for fair pay; self-employment & entity types; budgeting & taxes; credit, debt & long-term saving.
Amy co-founded, co-directed, and performed with Headlong Dance Theater. She left Headlong in 2019 to focus on freelance work leading workshops and doing tax prep for artists with Philly Tax Prep for Artists. She also serves as the Finance Director at the Philadelphia Cultural Fund. Amy’s personal mission is to share what she has learned about financial management and financial well-being with other artists and arts organizations.
