Hurricane Helene decimated this community and there is an unbelievable amount of work needed to rebuild. We’re still processing all that has happened, which will likely take awhile. But we feel a closer connection than ever to this vibrant art community in WNC and are eager to help rebuild and support our local artists. Many of you have asked how you can help. There are many gofundmes for local artists who have lost everything. I have shared a few and will continue to do so. Look around and you’ll find many needing help. Heartbroken for our community. Things are bad here in WNC. The town of Swannanoa where @kimbertreee and my studio is was completely destroyed. By some miracle our studio survived. But the community will be rebuilding for a long time. There are still lots of people that need rescuing, and practically nobody has water or power. Grateful cell service came back on for some of us today. Very few gas stations with gas and if they do there’s a 2hr line in both directions. Hopefully FEMA arrives soon with food and water. This community is devastated. Send prayers and well wishes. Immensely grateful that my family is safe, not the story for many many people here. Tears have been shed both of sadness but also awe in witnessing the kindness and generosity of strangers. Examples of people coming together to help one another are all around. Keep sharing the love. Comment resources to help if you know of any. 🙏

Posted @withregram • @obeeeditions Big day today. @wishingflowerpress and I got help moving most of the studio, which included a 2500lb Kluge letterpress and a 1000lb Griffin litho press (the little guy)! Still needs a lot of work building tables and outfitting the rest of the space but a huuuge step was completed today 😰 Next week we add another letterpress and guillotine cutter to our machine collection! (etching press to follow 🤞) Our plan is to be printing in October! Oh, and there’s a small outdoor concert venue and mead distillery right outside our doors, plus a whole lot of other cool makers in the complex, can’t wait to meet all our neighbors and see you out here for a visit soon! Posted @withregram • @obeeeditions @willyborichardson @tamarindinstitute Willy is a painter who lives and works in Santa Fe, NM. His work is characterized by vertical strokes that the artist describes as “philosophy in motion”. To me they are abstract meditations on rhythm, repetition, and harmony. The marks record the gesture of creation by the artist and each carry unique expressive quality, while Willy’s sense of color is serene and sublime. This print is titled “Flow I” and is a 9-color lithograph printed from one stone, two aluminum plates, and one photoplate. Printed on Rives BFK Off-White and sized 22”x30”. Edition of 10. For Willy, translating the experience of painting, where the artist can react to each mark and work and rework the image until he is satisfied, to the process of the print was an entirely new experience and challenge. Used to working alone in a studio, the collaboration allowed Willy to slow down his process, and dissect the image in a new way. The artist makes the marks on the stone or plate, but the colors come later. Through the trial proofing process, we tried various arrangements and combinations of the printed layers, ink mixing, blended rolls, adding and removing layers, until the arrangements “worked” and satisfied the intentions of the artist. This was a much more removed manner of working for an artist used to direct application of color to a canvas. I enjoyed the challenge that this process required and was truly proud of the works we produced. For Willy, as is often the case, these new methods of making work in printmaking inform the work back in the studio, an artist is never the same after making a print!

Cheers, Perry Posted @withregram • @obeeeditions When I started out in art school I had no idea what printmaking was, I asked the tour guide if the print studio is where the school newspaper was printed! But after my first class I fell in love with the process of making an image through the (literally) backwards way of thinking printmaking demands. Every print is a puzzle and each new project provides a unique set of problems to figure out. As I progressed as an artist, I discovered that collaboration was where I found the most fulfilling creative process, much more than the solitary artistic practice. My passion, I discovered, is in solving problems in partnership with another artist. I am truly engaged when, working alongside another artist, we get to discover together a new way to approach a problem. As a printer I bring technical expertise in the techniques of printmaking which allows me to share knowledge and opportunities with artists they may not have encountered before. But more than that, the creative process of collaboration allows for work to me made that couldn’t exist without this relationship, some call it a dance, between artist and printer.
