A report on what was one of the biggest mass graves in Syria.
An unassuming compound in the city of Al-Qutayfah, beneath a former military site just north of Damascus, lies stories of unspeakable horror.
Despite being such a tiny spot on the map, it has been estimated to contain the bodies of about 0.4% of the entire Syrian population, meaning nearly 1 in 200 Syrians had once been under this grave, although the bodies have been moved in later years.

Khthon is a humanitarian initiative that uses satellite imagery to locate, monitor and analyse mass graves in conflict zones across the world.
