World leaders and states need to be courageous enough to buck the trend of ignoring human rights. We must all do everything in our power to disrupt the expansion of authoritarian practices. Leaders won’t hold themselves accountable. People will. Our State of the World’s Human Rights’ report is out now. Link in bio.

Even the best player on Earth can’t outrun the simple fact that the beautiful game has an ugly truth: The #FIFAWorldCup is taking place in a landscape where ICE agents have killed migrants, protesters and observers — in 2025 alone, deported over 500,000 people — more than six times the number of people who will watch the World Cup final in person next month. Despite this, #FIFA has yet to ask President Trump to halt cruel #ICE raids during the #WorldCup. Enough is enough. Humanity must win – call on FIFA President Gianni Infantino and host country authorities to: 1) respect peaceful protest, 2) end mass detentions and deportations, 3) protect everyone from discrimination. Stop the World Cup from turning into a festival of fear. The World Cup belongs to us all. Take action via link in bio.

The FIFA World Cup should be about joy not fear. Unity not division. Humanity not cruelty. We’ve made our choice. Have you? #HumanityMustWin ⚽️

Bille, a town of 30,000 people in Rivers State, Nigeria, sits next to abandoned oil and gas infrastructure. Since October 2025, methane has been bubbling up in rivers, swamps and drinking wells near the town. It is suspected that the oil and gas wells are the cause of these leaks. School children have had to relocate and members of Bille’s community are falling sick due to this. One resident told Amnesty International that the community is “no longer safe.” The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission began investigating the leaks in April and ordered all operating companies nearby to find a solution. The state Governor also offered 100 million Naira (approximately 75,000 USD) to the Bille community to cover relief costs. But little has been done to stop the leaks, and Bille now faces a serious health emergency. Amnesty International continues to call for these investigations to be expedited. Immediate action must be taken to stop the gas leaks, and clean drinking water must be restored to Bille.

For Palestinians, every day is Nakba Day. For 78 years, Israel has denied Palestinians their right to return home - violating international law and UN resolutions. Dispossession, displacement, and fragmentation continue to define Palestinian lives. The lives of Palestinians in the occupied Gaza Strip – most of whom are refugees and descendants of refugees - are now also devastated by Israel’s genocide. The denial of the right of return is a key tool through which Israel enforces its system of apartheid, which is a crime against humanity. Israel must stop its genocide against Palestinians in Gaza and end its unlawful occupation of Palestinian territory. It must grant Palestinian refugees their right of return. Palestinians do not simply mark the Nakba; every aspect of their lives is marked by its continuation.

Amnesty International calls on authorities to arrest and surrender former Philippines police chief and sitting Senator Ronald ‘Bato’ dela Rosa. Dela Rosa is wanted by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for alleged crimes against humanity during former President Duterte’s violent “war on drugs”. After seeking refuge in the Philippines Senate building, he fled Senate premises overnight in a seeming effort to evade arrest. The ICC Prosecutor accuses Dela Rosa of committing the crime against humanity of murder, citing incidents in which 32 people were killed between 2016 to 2018. The inaction of the Philippines government and evidence of obstruction of justice is alarming. In the interest of justice for victims, survivors and their families, those suspected of criminal responsibility must be brought to justice in fair trials.

The US government is breaching international human rights standards by moving ahead with a series of new lithium mines across Nevada without the Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) of affected Indigenous Peoples, threatening their culture, health, water and environment. Amnesty International is calling for the US government to urgently reform federal and state laws to require free, prior and informed consent before approving any project affecting ancestral Indigenous lands.

Israel's unlawful and wanton destruction of civilian high-rise buildings continues to have devastating consequences for displaced Palestinian families in the occupied Gaza Strip, where reconstruction remains a distant dream amid ongoing genocide and air strikes despite the October 2025 so-called ceasefire. Israel must allow immediate, unfettered access to indispensable aid and goods, including shelter material. Israeli officials who ordered unlawful destruction, collective punishment or acts of genocide must be held accountable.

Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya has been one of the most prominent voices of Gaza’s decimated healthcare sector and today marks his 500th day in arbitrary detentions. We stand together in solidarity with Dr. Abu Safiya and all Palestinian health workers who continue to endure the horrors of genocide and Israel’s targeting of health workers. #FreeDrHussamAbuSafiya

Failure to suspend Israel from Eurovision, as it continues to commit genocide in Gaza, unlawful occupation and apartheid against Palestinians, is an act of cowardice and double standards. #HumanityMustWin
