In my latest for @elleusa I explored Black art as a visual main character in Spike Lee’s latest Denzel Washington @denzelwashington.official and @asaprocky led joint, “Highest 2 Lowest.” Shout out to @officialspikelee for his comments and @kendallhurns of @artehausstudios for lending his insights on what it’s like to build and scale a Black art studio from the ground up. The Production designer of @highest2lowest , Mark Friedberg (Emmy-winner and set design for “Joker”) weighed in on why his creative process for film world-building begins by roaming museum halls.

Like my mama @tarawoner , Mama Tina was tasked to raise free Black girls in a world that relishes off of our captivity.
