The New York Times gave I'M ALWAYS SO SERIOUS such a glowing review!! It's official: you have to buy my book. You don't want to be the only one who hasn't read it, do you?
A little late posting, but here are some photos I took on Mardi Gras Day. Long Live New Orleans.

Thank you to @bet and @thedanielleyoung for featuring me in the article, "Still We Write: 10 Black Poets Holding the Line and Expanding the Form" for National Poetry Month.
Yesterday, we brought poet Karisma Price to visit our book club inside Orleans Parish Justice Center. Karisma read from her book “I’m Always So Serious.” We discussed the meaning of words such as “poetry” and “refugee.” One person remarked that our visit was the first opportunity she’d ever had to meet an author, which is a powerful reminder of why we do what we do! Books have the power to create connection and build community, no matter where we are.
📚 Read by the author: Karisma Price, “The Month Before Your Father Goes to Prison”
Karisma Price is part of the 2026 cohort of the Writing Freedom Fellowship, a program led by @HaymarketBooks , with support from Mellon Foundation.
Price is the author of “I’m Always So Serious,” which was a @nytimes Editors’ Choice Pick. She is a 2025 Whiting Award winner and holds an MFA in poetry from New York University. She is currently an assistant professor of English at Tulane University.

Extremely blessed and privileged to be named as a 2026 Writing Freedom Fellow. With my writing, I aim to focus on community and how we cannot achieve anything alone. So often we throw away people in society when they've experienced imprisonment, drug addiction, poverty, etc, many of which experiences have affected me and my kin. Honored to be in the company of these great writers who've also won the fellowship. Thank you to @haymarketbooks , @mellonfoundation and the judges for selecting my work.

Grateful to be chosen as a finalist and the 2025 Louisiana Fellow for the South Arts Southern Prize and State Fellowship for Poetry. This weekend I got to meet some amazing poets and experience the glory that is Cook Out. I got a fully tray of food and a milkshake for under $10. Long live the south. Congrats to @yesaurielle for winning on behalf of the state of Georgia and @cityofawoman for being the runner up representing Alabama!
