STATIC pictures two soldiers in a small unit stranded in the field await a signal from their radio. STATIC | 50D 35mm “Shooting Static on 35mm made me commit to my lighting choices in a way I never had before. With no monitor and shooting only exteriors under a constantly changing sun, I had to rely only on light measurements, which let me fully embrace my decisions and push the film’s desert look to its limit — chasing that hot, blinding feeling in the highlights I don’t think we could have achieved any other way. AFI student spotlight: bringing bold film visions to life with Suncase Batteries. Read how reliable, portable power made a difference behind the scenes: “On our most ambitious principal day, shooting in a government building downtown, we used up to eight SunCases to power the set. Each unit ran a 2400Bs light at 75% intensity for nearly three hours. This setup allowed us to remain nimble and rotate batteries throughout a 10-hour shoot day, powering 2–4 high-output LEDs as needed.
