🚀 Slowing Down to Go Fast? Yes, Really.
Slowing down isn’t about indecision, getting stuck, or avoiding action. It’s about being more present, clear, and effective.
This idea keeps coming up with leaders: 🔹 It surfaced in a workshop last week. 🔹 It came up again in a podcast recording yesterday. 🔹 And it’s at the core of our next free webinar next Tuesday, April 1 (no foolin’!).
Later in April, we’re also offering a session on Leading with Cultural Intelligence.
You can register for one or both—link in bio. Hope to see you there!
The response from senior higher ed leaders committed to DEI ready to unleash their fullest potential, has been terrific. This isn't 101 or 401, but a personalized journey for only 12 folks to develop YOUR leadership voice. DM me to join our free intro session on Monday or find 15 minutes to chat with one of us.

This session will explore the findings from the five-year and 10-year follow-up interviews in this longitudinal grounded theory study of men’s identity development. We will examine how the men navigated the different gender expectations of them later in life and their gender performance. We will also explore a process of becoming that included both identity exploration and integrity reflection for the men in the study. YOU get the final say over your own body
.
For our first topic, YAS members decided to focus on consent because understanding what consent is (and isn’t) is needed in order to have healthy and enjoyable relationships. If you don’t understand consent, then you can’t have a good understanding of gender-based violence and the systems that allow it to happen. .
“Explicit Permission: A 'zine on Sexual Consent and Body Autonomy” was created by YAS Member Miles. The ‘zine has amazing artwork, some basic information, and even includes resources for you to learn more.
.
The adult resource list includes @healingjustice , @keiththephd , @chanelmillerknowmyname , #tonimorrison, @roxanegay74 , and @kateharding . The children’s resource list includes some great books from the @sexpositivefamilies reading list, like @cisforconsent , because it’s never too early to teach children that their bodies belong to them.

“The waiting is the hardest part, every day you get one more yard. You take it on faith, you take it to the heart, the waiting is hardest part.” -Tom Petty
Almost four months ago I announced and widely celebrated that the final book manuscript was accepted by the publisher. That it would go into the next major step of production.
I’ve been waiting a while to share the latest - because honestly it’s been really hard.
If you’re a listener to Josie & The Podcast or roll deep on #TeamJosie you would know that the August update turned out much differently, starting about a month later.
I received news that I would need go back to attempt major (major) cuts. These rounds continued through the fall.
I kept faith we’d get back on track, that the book would be better for all of it. But so much waiting.
Editing each paragraph, page and chapter felt like a yard of my heart. In the end, cutting over 30,000 words.
I’ve been holding back to share or to celebrate - a little shy something would or may still derail the project another day.
Actually there will be more waiting - and the production process will continue to be hard.
But I’m so relieved, at least today, to say the book has been accepted by the publisher and is back in production. It’s honestly the best Christmas gift I could’ve hope for.
Today I also get to celebrate a whole lot of amazing friends and family that got me through this hard, waiting fall. (See all those tags!) I want to especially thank @kristen_abell who stepped in as an additional editor/advisor.
So, the timeline is out the window. But I’ll be sure to give updates on pre-sales and release dates as we get there.
All I need to know today - that this is worth celebrating too.
That the waiting will very much be worth it, even though it’s been hard. My faith and heart have grown with ever step, word and yard I’ve worked and waited through this fall.
