AN APHASIA (2025)
“I would rather stand here and hold this pillar and die with it.”
”AN APHASIA“ is a photography and poetry project by Kasper Forest, created during the 2025 STUPIN artist residency program. This work continues the existential questioning found in Taiwanese writer Qi Deng Sheng‘s fiction ”I Love Black Eyes“ — questioning life itself on isolated island with flood, how do we survive in the time of misery when we suffer from aphasia ? Kasper brought the persistent energy of the past few years — illness, silence, and forgetting — to Qiaotou, Kaohsiung. Through photography and poetry, he presents the challenges faced in recent years and what he describes as a foggy mental state.

Truly honored to have been selected for the Tokyo International Photography Award. This recognition is especially meaningful, as I received it in the ANALOG / FILM category. I have always shot film, and I always will ! Also wish to express my deep gratitude to those who allowed me to document them. It is their trust that has enabled me to transform my photography into a platform for storytelling—bringing to light the Unseen and Untold stories of this city.
