“Colony,” 2026 ✨ Graphite, white charcoal, mars black lumograph, cosmetics on toned paper This piece was a result of the @miles_art sketchbook retreat I recently attended at @chapelofsacredmirrors 🐜 Just a few days before I left for the retreat, I unfortunately had to deal with a case of sexual harassment—though a minor case, it completely enveloped my brain for the entire trip. I suppose the timing couldn’t have been better, as I had time and space away from home to process my frustration. While this particular incident was very minor, it drummed up a lot of memories and painful experiences of my own, and ones I have heard from others—A grave reality is that every single person who has been or is a woman, girl, femme, or AFAB, has multiple stories of various harassment because it is so common for us to experience, and that really pisses me off, that really burns me up inside—it makes my skin crawl thinking about the nasty shit that has been said to me over the years, it has made me weep; that feeling of eyes looking over you, hands touching you, grabbing, groping, filthy words said, perpetrators of violence acting in groups, preying on you, preying on me, preying on us, burrowing inside and building a nest, over and over and over again. When we began the sketching process, the first thing I drew was an ant. Miles encouraged me to push the concept until I got it to a place to create a final piece. This drawing feels like a small study for a larger, more detailed work in the future. I didn’t worry myself with being completely anatomically accurate like my normal drawings, I just wanted to loosen up and enjoy the process (the drawing process at least, not necessarily the subject matter). “Gorge” 2026 Cosmetics, graphite, white charcoal on toned paper ✨ When considering the name for this piece, the first drawing I have finished in 2 years, I thought a lot about the circumstances surrounding my hiatus from art-making; the past several years I have experienced major life changes that disrupted my mental and physical health—being in a studio space I hated, a lay off and subsequently being unemployed for 7 months, and battling a major technology addiction during that time. With the weight of watching live updates of multiple massacres happening simultaneously, across the world and in our own backyards, day after day after day, while having the privilege to say “watching” and not “enduring,” this piece is very, very heavy. We are witnessing vicariously through the pull of the Internet, the repulsiveness of what we’re seeing and not being able to turn away, consuming the highest good and brutal evil casually back and forth repeatedly through technology, jumping from one app to the next, and burning ourselves in the process. “Gorge” means to stuff ourselves to excess, until we’re sick, greedily. To binge in all aspects, being addicted to repulsive content, knowing its effect on us, and doing it anyway—Are we over-consuming, or are we being over-consumed? #art #darksurrealism #selfportrait #drawing #phoneaddiction

There is a great punishment waiting on the other side for a those who disobey the tenants of love—may they rot for the suffering they cause. It is hard to put into words all of the deep terror and dread being felt right now, a mutual feeling that calls beyond us as individuals, but as a united group. Let these feeling radicalize you as we enter a period of great darkness for marginalized people. Keep speaking, keep acting, keep creating for us.
