For this month's edition of VG+ on @refugeworldwide , I invited myself to the apartment of Taipei's top selector @little_aimei for an hour of loungey tunes. Her dad, @pocari_sweaty , insisted on jumping in for a couple tracks as well.
Pocari Sweaty is a well hydrated DJ hailing from Washington DC whose selections are deep and euphoric, ranging across various styles of house, disco, and techno.
These days he runs the party/label Mango Season, and DJs regularly at Pawnshop and Organik Festival in Taiwan, and Hong Kong's 宀Club.
愛梅 (Aimei) was born in Meishan in late 2025, and despite her relative youth has become a rising star on IG, with a follower count far surpassing the other DJs on this show. She prefers ambient music but has been dabbling in house and techno lately.
When I first read about @organik_festival on RA many years ago (2017?), I had just started going to parties in LA and started to teach myself how to mix. Hard to believe all these years later, that while the mixing has only marginally improved, I would be in Taiwan and have the chance to play in the same lineup as a large number of DJs I admire 🙏.
I'll be opening the main stage Sunday 13 - 15. Hopefully everyone gets some rest after @kerenahsu set, and we can ease into the very capable hands of @krustkreeper and @simonedekunovich
After a couple months break, @_jan_k_ and I are trying something different for the VG+ shows, given I'm now in Taipei for most of the year. We'll be alternating hosting duties every month or two. Jan will be hosting live in the Berlin, and I will be providing guest mixes showcasing the many excellent DJs / producers / musicians in Taiwan and Asia.
First up is one of Taipei's most revered selectors, KATRINA @katrinaniu . The music director at Taipei listening bar Double Check, and one of the residents of the dance music collective PURE G, KATRINA has had a major influence on Taipei's music scene. Besides regularly playing eclectic sets all around Asia, she's also mentored a decent chunk of the local regular DJs in Taipei. Most impressively, she is the only DJ to have a drink named after her at Rabbit Hole (tomato, Tabasco, grapa, whiskey).

“Rain Water for me evokes this feeling of optimistic melancholy. During this rainy period one might be looking forward to better times just around the corner.” This is how klu reflects on “Rain Water” as he brings the 34th Orbitinging series: “It’s for those rainy days when you’re lying on the sofa, feeling a little down. It‘s centered around classic Brazilian pop, which for me is especially good at conveying these feelings of both sadness and contentment,” he adds.
Informed by years in the clubs and warehouses of the US and Berlin, klu favors a diverse approach to dance music developed during his and co-host jan k’s VG+ radio show on Berlin’s Refuge Worldwide. Relatively new to Taipei after escaping the Berlin cold a year ago, he is now often seen in both the DJ booths and dance floors of Taipei, including at Pawnshop and Rabbithole.

凌晨三點到六點，一直是我認為舞池最誠實、也最殘酷的時段。跳累的、想走的、喝醉的、在廁所前猶豫的。
這個時間點的音樂，比起無腦衝刺，更需要有層次的推進；比起快速的撥弄，更需要持續而節制的挑逗。
PLOY 是少數我認為理解這個時段的 DJ。帶點壞勁的 groove 會慢慢關閉回家的念頭，將舞客引導進一種更本能的、甚至可以說是一種愚笨的舞動狀態。
非常值得一聽他在 2025 年夏天、於克羅埃西亞 Dekmantel Selector 第三天深夜的那場演出，聽了或許就能更理解上面文字想描述的感覺。
那天晚上的我在民宿補眠，Kevin 也已經回柏林錄製電台節目，我們都錯過了現場，但也正因如此，一得知 PLOY 有亞洲行程時，我們幾乎是在第一時間邀請他來台北。

PLOY, the alias of South London–based producer and DJ Sam Smith, emerged in 2016 with his debut release “Sala One Five” on Hessle Audio. A series of EPs followed on Batu’s Timedance imprint, where he helped shape a distinct contemporary sound rooted in UK bass traditions and pushed toward more exploratory forms.
His work has received remix treatments from Beatrice Dillon, Peder Mannerfelt, and Verraco, and he later released his debut album Unlit Signals on New York label L.I.E.S. Alongside this, he founded his own label and club night, Deaf Test.
In recent years, PLOY has focused on contemporary house, drawing from progressive, tech-house, and garage, while maintaining a monthly residency on London’s Rinse FM, blending house, techno, and garage into a two-hour broadcast format.
