When wounds shed into renewal, the snake slips out of its skin— not to become, but to return to essence. Cold-blooded yet soft, dangerous yet fragile, truth surfaces in the act of being seen, needing no defense. GUVEX is an experiment in seeing and being seen, where memory and form continuously shift along blurred sensory edges— unnamed, and unnamable. We are all in motion, slowly transforming into something unspeakable. THE BODY AS EVIDENCE @obtuse______archive Photographer Juan Chen ( @ju4nchen ) and curator and cofounder of the platform Moco Chen ( @creepymoco ) begin from a tension between the body, the image, and the act of being seen. John Berger suggested that seeing is never a neutral act. The way we perceive the world is shaped by culture, power, desire, and the media through which images circulate. In contemporary visual culture, seeing is no longer simply an act of looking. It has become a mechanism through which reality is reconstructed. Spiritual alienation has never looked so familiar. When a person is continuously subjected to the gaze, aesthetic judgment, and commodification, their inner self begins to be recoded by an external image system. The viewer believes they are looking at a person. What they are actually seeing is a post-human surface; shaped collectively by media, desire, fashion, and us. A photography project about the cost of being looked at, and what survives the image. I stood at the edge of that moment. The sounds of war had not yet fully faded; the air still carried a victory that felt almost too easy. They said justice had been fulfilled— but what I saw was not an ending, it was the beginning of a deeper fracture. She was named Imago. A being pulled from the Abyssus—defined, and pierced. They said— “Evil needs no explanation. It only needs to be destroyed.” But the moment I saw her, I began to doubt. At first, she was light. Like a signal not yet understood, moving and flickering within the light. They called it vitality. Until the surface began to rupture— sweetness turning, texture thickening, no longer just beauty, but something in the process of becoming. I realized— this was not judgment. This was evolution. She chose the most direct, and most brutal way to exist. That red was not an invasion— it was the shape of her final breath. Misaligned, distorted— yet undeniably real. When the Order pierced through her, they believed it was the end. But I knew— it was only the moment she was first seen by the world.
