Maximising efficiency:
âEvery year our specialist soils and substrates are specified on projects further and further afield from our blending and manufacturing facilities. In order to fulfil these orders promptly, while keep costs competitive for our clients, we collaborate with the other
@thebourne_group companies to bring backloads from these sites, making use of our strong nationwide supply chain.

Thanks very much to
@johnbourne_co driver Kevin, for documenting his day showcasing this; starting with an ongoing landscaping project in Bristol. Nu-Landscapes needed several tipper loads of our Lake Margin Soil, which we manufacture at our facility in Sevenoaks, Kent.
Utilising our own
@johnbourne_co fleet, meant we could make this delivery early in the morning, before stopping by our friends at Tarmac in the Forest of Dean to backload with Deansett Gravel (aka Redgra) for a school client
@acscobhamschool in Cobham, Surrey.
Following this drop, a quick visit to
@sibelcogroup at their Godstone quarry to backload to our Newenden HQ with 20 tonnes of Play Pit Sand for our sister company
@gardenscapedirect , to bag up for their retail clientele.
Due to our extensive range of materials, and varied client base, we are able to maximise the efficiency of the
@thebourne_group and keep costs as competitive as possible throughout the country. With some joined-up thinking from our hard working logistics team, we can provide the best service possible to our clients, while running our fleet as efficiently as possible.

A total 356 miles were covered, in order to service these 3 customers, with only 48 of those miles being empty or âdeadâ miles. This works out at around 13-14% of the distance travelled without a load, versus the current industry standard of around 30%. One of our ongoing goals is to consistently operate at less than 20% empty, as a commitment to reducing our carbon footprint, so backloading and working with fellow hauliers is a good place to start.
