Today, we’re launching our new organisational strategy: Make Trees Matter! ✨ Our vision? Urban trees for all! Towns and cities where everyone can live healthier lives surrounded by thriving trees and nature. 🚀 Our mission? Making trees matter for everyone so they’re valued, cared for properly, and given the resources they need, especially in places with the lowest tree cover. 🎯 Our goal? Grow a movement for urban trees and tree equity, bringing people together to make sure every community, no matter their background or postcode, can benefit from the life-changing power of trees. But we can’t do this on our own… will you help us make trees matter? Visit the link in our bio to read our strategy and join our movement for urban trees and tree equity 🌳 #MakeTreesMatter

Trees bring SO much to our cities... They filter the air we breathe, provide habitats for creatures great and small, offer moments of calm amidst the hustle and bustle of urban life (the list goes on!) But these benefits aren’t experienced equally everywhere. Many areas still lack the greenery that helps communities stay healthy and resilient 🌳 That's why we're working to create neighbourhoods where nature is part of everyone’s daily life, not just that of a lucky few, making trees matter where it matters most. Head to the link in our bio to learn about what we've done this planting season to help make tree equity a reality in the UK 🌟 #TreeEquity #UrbanTrees #MakeTreesMatter

With their iconic star-shaped blooms in shades of white, pink, and yellow, magnolias bring a welcome burst of colour to our streets each spring — though sometimes blossoming as early as February 🌷🌼🪻 The tree was named after French botanist Pierre Magnol, who was among the first to classify plants into families, and with its 200+ varieties, the name feels especially fitting! What’s your favourite type of magnolia?

It’s Mental Health Awareness Week, and this year, the theme is ‘Action’. One of @mentalhealthfoundation 's top tips for good mental health is getting closer to nature — and we couldn’t agree more 🌿 All year round, we champion the powerful impact of trees and nature on wellbeing, helping communities feel calmer, more connected, and more hopeful. An action as simple as getting outdoors and planting trees together can make a real difference. Here are just a few ways urban trees can support our mental health and wellbeing, brought to life through the beautiful words of volunteers at planting days kindly supported by @bupafoundation 💚🌳 If you're keen to find out more about the link between nature and our mental health, visit the link in our bio. #MHAW2026

There’s no point in putting trees in the ground if we don't give them what they need to establish and thrive. If you're stumped as to how to care for trees beyond watering, here’s what we do — and what you can do too — to give them the best chance 🌟 Next time you're tasked with planting or looking after a tree, take a leaf out of our book and follow these steps to support successful establishment. Keen to dive deeper into how we care for trees after planting? Head to the link in our bio. #UrbanForestry #TreeEstablishment #SustainableCities

🌿💼 Forging a career in the green sector isn’t always straightforward, but the right opportunities can make all the difference. By investing in inclusive opportunities and nurturing early-career talent, Trees for Cities is building a network of passionate individuals ready to champion tree equity and create greener, healthier cities for all. We spoke to three of our fantastic interns — Lizzie, Toni, and Lucas — about their journeys into environmental work, the challenges they faced, and what helped them find direction, confidence, and purpose along the way. We raised £26,141 for urban trees 🤯 Thanks to the incredible generosity of our supporters (that’s you!), we didn’t just meet our fundraising goal — we beat it! With donations kindly matched by @biggiveorg , your support will go twice as far in helping us plant and care for trees in urban neighbourhoods, creating greener, healthier spaces for communities all over the UK. These trees will help cool our streets, improve air quality, and make cities more liveable for everyone 🌍 A heartfelt thank you on behalf of Trees for Cities — we truly couldn’t have done it without you. ‘Right tree, right place’ has never been more important 🌳 Climate change is putting urban trees to the test, and as our cities get hotter and drier, the need for careful tree selection is becoming increasingly vital. Urban trees in particular often have compacted soils and competing vegetation to contend with, and when rising temperatures are added to the mix, some species simply aren’t equipped to cope. That’s why good planting starts long before a tree goes into the ground 🪏 By choosing the right tree for the right place — and opting for native species where we can — we're giving our trees the best possible chance to establish, support wildlife, improve air quality, boost wellbeing, and provide much-needed patches of shade, now and for future generations.
