Kyrgyzstan - I’ve just started to write in my journal some of the poignant moments that left an impact on me during what felt like a bread & cheese fueled journey through mountain passes, yurt camps, & tiny villages. Remembering the art of discomfort felt important on this trip… changing a tire on a remote mtn pass, getting eaten by mosquitoes with my pants down in a trash heap dealing with food poisoning, operating solo at times in a country that largely speaks only Russian or Kyrgyz, little cell service, etc…
The rawness & beauty of the country quickly outshone any western gripes of mine and I quickly learned that the trip would have been largely unsuccessful if not for the kindness of strangers and the wonders of Google translate.

There’s a genuine spirit of optimism that emerges through the lens on these passion-inspired that take special groups of people into beautiful remote places. It’s often uncomfortable to be or get there but typically rewarding even so. Documenting such a highly experienced group of athletes in the unusual sport of winter bike packing was a privilege… and I couldn’t help but point the camera a few times at our Super Jeeps & drivers… legends in their own field who allowed us with cameras to safely navigate the huge glacier.

This mountainous region is so vast and filled with some incredible natural wonders and the occasional viper you gotta watch out for. Loved the crew and met some fantastic people who made this show happen!
The most authentic smiles often show up during moments of passion, a little hardship, and extended time spent without a roof overhead. This one of @miron_golfman came after a day’s climb up the western edge of the Vatnajökull glacier - roughly 5,700ft, where the Grimsvotn hut sits on the edge of caldera & active volcano.
