a couple rad @jerandco projects are out in the world today! it’s always an exciting feeling to “send the kid to kindergarten” and i love working with both of these kids so much. the first single from a full-length record by @jessetaylor.band “procrastination queen” is a real gem. a surprise acoustic EP by @millettemusic (featuring a haunting @bonjovi cover) called “all in a day” that we—fittingly—recorded in a day! much more very soon. xoxo, jerry
two years ago yesterday, i put out my first solo song in 15 years.
it was scary, and funny and exciting. the song is called “90s”.
it was the product of a simpler time, at the time yearning for an even simpler one.
it’s a celebration, and critique of nostalgia. it’s a song about getting older. it’s a corny letter to myself about how much and how little i’ve changed. about how much, and how little life changes.
i wrote around 30 verses, kept two of them. i wrote, recorded and mixed it all myself. i got a grammy award winning engineer to master it. i built a whole world of “content” around it and scrapped most of it. a full music video. dozens of posters and gifs and promo clips.
relearned HTML and coded a “geocities”-style 90s website around it. i shared some of it but mostly it was a great exercise in making a bunch of goofy stuff just for fun, like i did when i was a kid. it didn’t “do numbers” but i’m glad i did it.
it feels weird to celebrate much of anything while so much of everything feels dark. but i’d like to think that sadness and celebration can coexist.
to my future self: keep making stuff & don’t let bad things take away the good things.

no matter how hard things get, i’ve always been lucky to have music to keep me going - to keep me grounded, connected and making things with my friends. after making a song together last year for @easternmountaintime ‘s brilliant “burlington does burlington” compilation, @jessetayl0r and i talked about making a whole record, and here we are! basics from this week - unmixed, raw sounds of her and the band playing live. i’m sure we’ll overdub some stuff and add some literal/figurative bells & whistles but this gives you a general idea of the vibe. this song feels particularly poignant, powerful and important to share right now. if you have songs you’ve been meaning to sing, hit me up. i want @jerandco to be comfortable, affordable and accessible to all. also yesterday marks 4 years without drinking for me so that feels pretty cool. alright be kind, go for a walk, pet a dog, check in on your friends, make art that matters to you. love, jer
Grateful to be a part of a bunch of cool projects this year @jerandco - from producing and playing stuff, to mixing and mastering, I love the wide array of weirdos I get to collaborate with and am so thankful they have me on board. When the @jerandco studio needed a new roof a couple years back I signed on to fix it up. Jer, being the gentle-giant-documentarian that he is, came out with his camera and got some footage. This whole video was spontaneous if you can believe that. And while it looks like I’m the only one up there I could not have got the old roof off and the new one down in the window of good weather we had without the help of @s.b.wooster , @shawnsybillops , and Indigo from @montpelier_construction who generously helped on his day off. Also Emily and Jer for doing most of the ground shingle clean up when it was getting dark and I was getting tired. Oh and Jer saved me from falling off the roof on one of these days too. 👷♂️
Speaking of spontaneity, I’d put this song in the “where in the universe did that come from” category not because I think it’s out of this world profound or anything, but because I wrote it in about the amount of time it takes to sing it and when we went to record the same thing happened. A few live takes, Willy jumping on the keyboard to see what spirits of basement tapes past we could pay our respects to, golden harmonies from the great beyond (by way of @whosagoodbaby ) and that was it. A little in house mixing and we shipped it out to Chris Colbert for mastering. So if you’re still with me I guess I’m saying that Time Is Cool and Not All Minutes Are Made The Same.
