🌼’Freshly Cut’ Opens this Friday, November 7th! 🌺 The SEABA Center’s first full exhibition features 30 artists who were encouraged to think conceptually while utilizing floral themes in their work. SEABA Director, Christy Mitchell is also celebrating her birthday the same night and we’d love to see you! 💐 ‘Freshly Cut’ has a double meaning, much like the work in this inaugural exhibition at The SEABA Center. You may read into the title as simple as a sign selling fresh flowers, or something more sinister like a cutting word or fresh wound. Throughout art history, flowers have also symbolized a range of emotions that the artist wanted to convey, from passion to the fleetingness of life. In a way art is its own memento mori, created during a moment in time, by a person who will ultimately wither and pass on, though not before leaving their mark. . . . This is a fun one. I have multiple packs of candy and bubble gum cigarettes in my room. I love the way cigarettes look, I think they’re kinda sexy but they’re also really bad for you so don’t smoke. If you want to look sexy without the risk of getting lung disease, try putting a bubblegum cigarette between your fingers and pretend to smoke it. It’s satisfying.
