Best of my 2023. Part 1 MPW.75 @mophotoworkshop In September, I spent eight days in the small Missouri town of Sedalia with 39 other photographers. We all pitched and photographed one story. My Team is My Family The Lady Tigers wrestling team at Smith-Cotton High School is in the top five of Missouri’s state preseason rankings. Nationally, girls’ wrestling programs have become more common, leading to better equality and more opportunity for girls.
Jasmine Wolfe, 16, is a co-leader of the the Lady Tigers team. Jasmine has been practicing for over three years. According to Smith-Cotton wrestling head coach Joe Hulsey, she has won numerous state medals and is one of the top 30 girls in the nation in her weight class.
Jasmine says her primary source of support comes from her guardian, Roy Corpier, and her best friend, hero, and co-leader, Jazlyn Smith. Their bond is so strong that often, their arms and fingers are linked when they walk through the hallway. The Lady Tigers athletes forge a stronger sense of community while lifting, wrestling, and supporting one another. I'm always grateful to @_.itzjazzy @hannah.wright12 and @jazlynsmith89 , coach Joe Hulsey, and Smith-Cotton High School for opening their doors and letting me share this story. Many thanks to MPW, Sarah Leen, @inkaman @alyssaschukar @hanyhawasly @kodakratz , and all the amazing people I met in Missouri. It was a challenging week but an unforgettable one. ❤️

Girls Can’t Skate is out! @cnn @cnnstyle Special thanks to @jacquiviolet for putting this project into words! Girls Can’t Skate spotlights an all-female and queer skateboarding community in New York City. By exploring these womxn’s shared passion and resilience, it celebrates female empowerment in contrast to the machismo culture and normalized violence against women that plagues much of the world.

These women are challenging barriers of the traditionally male-dominated sport at a historic moment for skateboarding, which will be part of the next Olympic Games. The images were captured before the COVID-19 pandemic, and then during the lockdown via FaceTime. Many thanks to the all-female and queer skate community in NY. @quellskate @grlswirlnyc @h0lymel @kristen_noelle_ @adriankoenigs @kristencatparty @_fer_til_izer_ @mallory_knox__ @nikisk8 @gray_1106 @stephreid333 @gatoxchild @allieminxia @tegen125 @housewifeskate @maryonethousand @sur.rah @apisukh @olipop_0.o @rcrobi @ves.yue @zalkini @prettyokayskater @pansyskate Thanks for sharing your story and for always making me feel part of your big family. ❤️❤️ Thanks to all my @icp teachers, classmates and friends! Gracias 2025 🫶🏼 2026 Six years ago, I had many dreams, including moving to a new country, making more friends, learning more, getting an MFA, and taking more photos. I didn’t expect to find inspiration again in México and in Mexican music. (My eternal gratitude to @tacet.eye and @mariachi_nuevo_amanecer )❤️ I also wanted to be a better version of myself and start my own little family. I feel lucky, proud, and grateful. But most of all, I wish for a better year for everyone, a year that is sustained by unity, dignity, safety, and community. ❤️🙏🏽 🦢

Viva México ❤️ I'm celebrating the 15th with these photos (and Chile en Nogada tonight). A couple of months ago, I pitched this guide on Mexican food by state to @nyctourism My favorite part was meeting with the people behind these amazing restaurants and having the honor of photographing them.
