Honoured to visit Holyrood Palace for a special event last night by invitation of the Lord High Commissioner. An incredible evening hearing pianist Ethan Loch perform in such a beautiful and historic setting in association with the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. A night to remember!!

They risked everything for love. Experience the passion and tragedy of Shakespeare’s star-crossed lovers through Prokofiev’s epic ballet score for 'Romeo and Juliet'. This Sunday afternoon, Emilia Hoving conducts one of classical music’s most powerful love stories. Also featured is Glasgow-born accordion virtuoso Ryan Corbett, performing a concerto written especially for him by fellow Scot Jay Capperauld. Galvanic Dances, inspired by Luigi Galvani’s eerie electrical experiments in the 1700s, reimagines the story of Frankenstein as a sequence of high-energy dances, a musical creation crackling with life! The concert opens with a UK premiere by Finnish composer Outi Tarkiainen, an 11-minute surge of hope that reflects on life’s unpredictability and the powerful currents carrying us beyond our control. Sun 17 May, 2pm, Glasgow City Halls

Exciting times ahead! @scottishchamberorchestra have announced their new 2026/27 Season which marks my fourth year as the SCO’s Associate Composer! I am hugely privileged that this season includes two world premieres as well as my continued collaboration with SCO’s Learning & Participation programmes. Here is a little more info about what is coming up this year… - Silent Teachers for Clarinet & String Quartet commissioned by @edinburghuniversity as part of their Medical School’s 300th anniversary. Inspired by the selfless individuals who donate their bodies to medical science - known to anatomy students as “silent teachers” - the piece is shaped by the dignity and generosity of their ultimate gift. Premiering on 17th November 2026 at the Edinburgh Futures Institute. - Sinfonietta for Chamber Orchestra commissioned by SCO and co-composed with the incredible young musicians of the SCO Academy. The piece explores themes of journey and connection in a multi-ability setting that invites musicians at every age and stage to play alongside the phenomenal musicians of SCO. Premiering at @usherhall on 12th November 2026 with SCO & SCO Academy conducted by Andrew Manze. - The Great Grumpy Gaboon for Chamber Orchestra returns for its fourth set of performances as part of SCO’s Families Concerts. This year visiting Dundee, Aberdeen & Glasgow, join the Gaboon and friends in this very special show in February 2027. - Immerse 2026 returns in September where high school music pupils can experience an orchestra up-close through my piece The Origin of Colour alongside kaleidoscopic artworks by @kirsty_matheson_art - Soundbox sees its second iteration as I work with composition students from The University of Edinburgh in developing new pieces for SCO musicians in celebration of the Edinburgh Medical School 300. - SCO Digital Season will feature my new piece Silent Teachers which will be released on YouTube on 18th November 2026. For full information, visit the SCO’s website and find the 26/27 Season material, or visit my own website to learn more about these thrilling events - lots to look forward to!! 📸 @christopherbowenphotography

A brilliant day at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland 🎶✨ We recently recorded The Gemstone Arias — which had its world premiere at the Institut français d'Ecosse earlier this year. With music by Jay Capperauld and text by Niall Campbell, the work was brought to life by Rosie Lavery (soprano) and Anna Michels (piano). From delicate textures to bold, expressive moments, it was a joy to hear this stunning piece take shape in the studio. Huge thanks to Oscar Dash for expertly recording and shaping the session — we can’t wait to share the results with you soon. 💎
