I got a bit misty-eyed last night when the brilliant Aaron Azunda Akugbo and Steven Osborne gave a heartrendingly plaintive encore of ‘My Foolish Heart’ after their performance with the SCO at the Usher Hall. It was one of my dear old mum’s favourite songs. Thank goodness for autofocus! 🥹

The ultimate Post Parade party! 🔥 The parade was just the warmup. @redhotchillipipers and @piper.ally took over @usherhall and turned up the heat. High energy, massive tunes, and unmatched vibes. There is absolutely nothing like live bagrock to finish the day! 🤘🥁

Richard Thompson with Zara Phillips returns to Scotland next month with special guest support from Hamish Hawk (solo)
Richard Thompson’s musical influence cannot be overstated. Having co-founded the ground-breaking group Fairport Convention as a teenager in the ‘60s, he and his bandmates invented the distinctive strain of British Folk Rock. He left the group by the age of 21 which was followed by a decade long musical partnership with his then-wife Linda, to over 30 years as a highly successful solo artist.
Rolling Stone: “Top 100 Guitarists of all time”
LA Times: “The finest rock songwriter and electric guitarist since Hendrix.”
~~
Hamish Hawk is a critically acclaimed indie-pop singer-songwriter and musician from Edinburgh, known for his high-energy, theatrical live performances. He has toured extensively, performing with artists including The Proclaimers, Public Service Broadcasting and most recently Wet Leg during Hogmanay.

Yesterday, the Usher Hall rang out with music from the Laurenson:Nicholson Duo at our latest Emerging Artists concert 🎻🎹
Amy Laurenson and David Nicholson brought together music that travels from the west coast of Scotland to the Northern Isles — rooted in tradition, but spoken in a contemporary voice. Their performance moved across a wide emotional landscape, from foot-stomping lightness to quieter, more reflective moments.
The programme also included music that has been important to David in embracing his autism and neurodivergence, offering space for different experiences and perspectives to be heard. In World Autism Acceptance Month, it felt especially fitting to reflect on inclusion, understanding, and a celebration of differences.
This concert continues a long-standing partnership with the Usher Hall that supports emerging musicians and regular live performances in the heart of the city. And there’s more to come — next up in June: Tripple and Josie Duncan. Tickets will be on sale soon.
Stay tuned for more amazing concerts in this season of Emerging Artists, funded by the Kimie Trust. 🎶
