“Bolero” - @angela_aguilar_ Last February @dylan_lindsey , Director and mastermind Alexis Gudino, producers Michael Herwick, @rubenfilms_ and I went to Cuba to shoot a documentary with Angela while she explored Cuban Bolero music and its history. We shot 10 music videos AND doc content in 8 days and I think it goes without saying, it was insane. We couldn’t get all the gear we wanted into Cuba due to carnet issues and ended up shooting everything on a mish mosh of random photo lenses Alexis and I owned and our 2 Komodo’s with a local crew who were all complete badasses. There’s too many names to list and I’m not sure I have everyone’s instagram but shout out to our gaffer @dcm8085 and the Cuban homies for literally crushing it. These dudes lit an ACTUAL CASTLE 360 exterior with every single light on the truck and no power at the location in under 2 hours, lit the shit out of a pitch black beach 1/4mile from a genny, put a 4K on a neighbors roof outside a house and did it all while smiling and having fun. Also shoutout to the camera homies @hubertovalera and @ronin_novoa for having my back 👊🏼 And producer @karla_batte_producer for making it all work 🤙🏼 It may have not gone 100% to plan and we had to work SO fast but it’s one of the coolest experiences I’ve ever had and one of those jobs I’ll never forget. Funny one to post but I wanted to do it eventually. I will always remember the day my dawg and badass DP @nathanhaugaard called me in 2017 and said “if you get to manhattan beach in the next 2 hours I can get you a job as a camera operator on Avatar”. I dropped everything and went, almost 2 1/2 years later we wrapped and 5 years later we finally got to see what we all worked hard for on the big screen. It was an honor to be a part of such an insane project and meet the people we met along the way. It was definitely unlike any project I’ve worked on before and will probably work on again. Can’t thank @nathanhaugaard @venturamb and @garrettxwarren enough for the opportunity to be a part of it. Also @sirjoshofcoffin for being a genius and teaching me so much.
