PALOMITAS SIN MAÍZ @corobenavent@gullytheintrepid | 200T 16mm
“This film was written after my friend Coro’s grandmother passed away in March, and Coro and Gully chose to complete the track with her in mind — reimagining it as a joyful tribute to life and the memories that outlast it. For this reason, shooting on 16mm was indispensable. It allowed us to create a soft, reminiscent atmosphere, a world tucked-away and veiled by an emotional veneer. The entire shoot was an opportunity to reflect, process and a reminder to be grateful for those who we still have around us.” Director & Editor- @gabrielletorreborre
“Our aim was to create a delicate, and lyrical feel to the image. We pushed 200T +2 stops so that we could rely exclusively on natural light. This felt like an essential choice since we wanted to be creatively free and adaptive on the day, allowing us to discover more truthful and spontaneous images.Shooting on film is a meditative approach on set for me, since it allows me to feel much more connected to the image. I love the atmosphere it creates and how each take is treated as sacred. Importantly, it allows me and Gabby to work more intuitively, relying on our instincts and trust in one another.“ DP- @james.lahaise

YOU KNOW US @natebrazier | 500T 16mm
“I’ve had a lifelong affinity for film - the medium has always felt like home. I admire the intentionality that film demands, balanced by its inherent element of chance and unpredictability. I’ve always felt that the warmth and texture of analogue filmography is irreplicable, and I’m proud to carry that filmographic tradition forward. ‘You Know Us’ was born from a period of transformation and growth, and I felt strongly that film was required to convey that depth.” @natebrazier
“After being selected by @_h_q_i_ for their 360 programme, I joined forces with artist @natebrazier, whose non-negotiable was to shoot on film. Nate’s previous music videos had been captured on 16mm, so it felt right to continue working in that format. After years of wanting to direct another short on 16mm, it felt like the perfect opportunity to blend narrative storytelling with that tactile medium. Every choice was made with intention and precision, committing fully to compositions that best served the emotion and intimacy of the piece.” @akirakaii
“Shooting on 16mm was a crucial part in executing the vision - we wanted to create images imbued with a sense of vulnerability and intimacy. I was really impressed with how 7219 handled the night exteriors. We didn’t push to develop the stock when we went out onto the streets and just carried a single Astera tube to key the performers, and I’m super happy with how these scenes turned out.” @james.lahaise
SOLSTICE @mortaghh | Double-X B&W 16mm
“There is an undeniable focus on set when shooting on film, particularly for this project as we only had 400ft. It’s an adrenalised pressure that I can only liken to performing on the stage. It hones untapped energy that I often feel is lost when shooting digitally. Mortagh’s writing and use of instrumentation created a clear and tangible world for me that lived in black and white 16mm. The lone performer ajar with a home full of haunting drunken memories paralleled my favourite thrillers and noirs with a skewed heroes perspective. Shooting their perspectives in black and white, at least for me, makes their experiences more objective, and therefore more relatable”.- Director & Editor Alistair Hendry
“Shooting on film was essential for this project, given the tactile and raw feeling we wanted imbued in the image. Ali and I can take a bit of a purist attitude when it comes to shooting on B&W stock, as we like committing 110% to our ideas and embracing the limitations that arise from them. We were super limited on budget, and shot the whole piece on one roll. You can see a small scratch on the neg that we all loved and thought worked well for this particular music video, this happy accident is the sort of thing that can arise from shooting on film that makes it such a joyful and exciting medium to work with.” DoP- James Lahaise
