In the studio with Nina a few months back.
I started creating these test shoot films as a way to challenge myself to see what I could make with the bare minimum - a few hours in a studio, white backdrop/cyc wall, a model and one other crew member. Post production was strict - I didn't want to spend money on music licensing, so I used that as a creative boundary to push more into strong and abstract sound design. Naturally some attempts fell flat, but eventually I got into a rhythm of experimentation that allowed me to develop weaker areas of my workflow and approach to filmmaking. And with that realization I'm noticing other growth areas that I'm hoping to tackle this year as I expand into wrapping up some short films that have been in the can for a bit, or writing new scripts, or coming up with new experimental/commercial concepts.
I love what I do because it affords me the opportunity to grow and grow some more and learn and be challenged and see things in new ways.
There's no client behind projects like this, just a deep love for the chance to create again and again and again.
