Lovely experience working with @samfischer and the team to bring to life a performance visualiser for his beautiful song A Heart Doesn’t Hurt Itself which is out now. Shout out to @glynnparkinson & @_yiani for bringing me onto this project. As soon as I heard the song I was sold. Sam is an absolute legend and extremely talented. Just a typical morning for me and my little guy. 🥰 He’s growing up so quickly so I decided I want to document more of these special moments. I thought being a filmmaker I’d be capturing everything but that’s not realistic when you’re prioritising being the most present version of yourself around your kids and honestly it’s hard work as it is so grabbing a camera isn’t so easy especially when you do it for a job. But sometimes you gotta document parts of it you never want to forget.

Recently I’ve been hearing from people who have watched Yakka and I’m just so proud of the film we made years ago and that it still has an audience that is resonating with it. 75k views on YouTube and comments, messages and emails coming from people all over the world. Creating this film was an amazing and challenging experience but is a constant reminder to why as filmmakers we need to keep telling stories. It’s always a great day with Jack. While the lights stayed in place the entire day we dialled in two states, one for the Arri and the other for 16mm, and were able to jump between them quickly for different takes. 

The base approach ran with a 2400B pushing in from the back window, an Intellytech Mega-8 panel dropped down from the truss and 1200X with 40 degree Snapgrid pushing in from camera right for level on the band. Add in a little haze and voilà.

This is one of those songs that stuck with me for weeks after - do yourself a favour and go have a listen.
