cajun moon 🌕 first official @jackriffs_ collab! it was a blast getting together with one of my main musical collaborators (and best buds) @marcoostru for a rendition of the classic J.J. Cale tune ‘Cajun Moon’. We spent the frigid morning at my cabin dialing this in (the wood stove fire helped🔥!) If you don’t know @jjcaleofficial , he was a monster musician, guitarist and the writer behind many hits that @ericclapton and many others recorded (After Midnight, Cocaine, Call Me The Breeze, Magnolia..) You may have also heard @johnmayer and @willienelsonofficial recordings of his tunes. Listen to JJ’s versions and records if you haven’t - they are great albums! new slang 🌊 Every time I hear New Slang by @theshins it instantly transports me back to quite frankly… a simpler time in my life. Like many, I think the film Garden State may have been my first introduction to the song and to the genius of The Shins. (Maybe one of the best needle drops on cinema history?? Yes, I said it!) the song structure, the simple harmony but non traditional chordal rhythmic movement, the catchy-as-can-be melody, the groovy bass line mirrored by a synth, the guitar solo, and of course the lyrics - quirky but meaningful if you dig in. Everything works with this song. Do yourself a favor and give it a re-listen. And check out the @songexploder episode featuring James Mercer talking about the inspiration and recording of the song. 🙏 I’m in the process of digging back into this original instrumental version of this song I started last year.
