@gq X @cadecunn1ngham | @pistons — My intent in composing this image centered on aspects of “inspiration” and “aspiration”. I believe the visages we engage with have the ability to nurture internal growth providing invaluable education and opportunities. I consider myself both a master and student - moonlighting as a mentor from time to time. This commission was truly unique because of the opportunity to include mentees, peers, and community fellows in the collaborative process. Thank you @culturesource & @bai_studio for blessing us with the opportunity to teach and learn from Christen our @detroitk12 | @dsa_dpscd high school intern! I’m grateful to find that Community is available in all spaces — thank you fellow @ccs_detroit peers | @duv_photo @naisthirdeye , @connorcieslak1 Rachel D. & prof. Carlson for supporting our 17 hour production!!! Extremely thankful for this opportunity and the alignment associated! Thank you Detroit 😅 Project credits # Photographs by Samuel Trotter @itstrotter Styled by Luka Sabbat @lukasabbat Grooming by Robbin Kujus @obbinkujusmakeup Barbering by Sebastian Jackson sebastianwho Braiding by Kamary Mingo @i_be_braiding Tailoring by Sarah Lapinski The dopest, legend @therealbrauna

I’ve been a practicing artist since 8th grade [Ludington Magnet Middle School]. As a student artist I benefited immensely from many youth career advancement & exposure opportunities both local and national. The @detnaacp ACT-SO competition was a program i applied to yearly, it was amazing to be alongside peers whom I went to school with @casstech2015 , it was in this program I also met bright minds like @franchescalamarre who’s hosting her growing book club with us today! Today, it’s an immense blessing to be able to produce space for youth and peers alike. So please please please IF YOU’RE A STUDENT (OF LIFE OR INSTITUTION) ARTIST OR KNOW OF ONE, submit to our open call featured in slide #2 !!! We are excited to meet you and help propel your vision

Black women figure prominently in Sam Trotter’s Everyday Gods. This Women’s History Month, we’re celebrating the power of Black women’s expressive culture and the ways Black women have always shaped culture—not just through what they create, but through how they move, speak, style, and imagine themselves in the world. ✨ Featured here are three influential figures in contemporary culture: @saweetie — rapper, entrepreneur, and cultural tastemaker whose confident self-fashioning and unapologetic sexuality redefine modern hip-hop stardom. @issarae — writer, producer, and actor whose storytelling reshaped how Black women’s interior lives, friendships, and humor are represented on screen. @sudanarchives — musician, violinist, and sonic innovator whose genre-defying sound blends R&B, electronic music, and global musical traditions. Through Trotter’s lens, these women appear not simply as celebrities, but as everyday cultural icons—figures whose creativity, style, and presence shape the sacred rhythms of Black life today. ✨ Explore the exhibition Everyday Gods: Samuel Trotter & the Sacred Ordinary of Black Life through the link in our bio. #WomensHistoryMonth #BlackWomenInCulture #BlackPopCulture #SamuelTrotter #BlackWomenCreatives

Continuing our Women’s History Month celebration, we’re spotlighting Jantaé Spinks—artist, curator, model, baker, and the visionary owner of Someday Gallery. Jantaé embodies what it means to build culture intentionally. Whether she’s curating exhibitions, crafting exquisite baked goods, modeling with magnetic presence, or shaping sound as DJ MilkyWay, her work lives at the intersection of beauty, care, and creative entrepreneurship. She creates spaces where art, music, and community nourish one another. She is also featured in our virtual exhibition, Everyday Gods: Samuel Trotter and the Sacred Ordinary of Black Life, where her presence reflects the elegance, intention, and quiet divinity embedded in everyday Black experience. Detroit is stronger because of women like Jantaé—women who build platforms, hold space, and make culture feel alive and accessible. When jubilation finds you in moments of reprieve capture it!🖼️ Detroiters understand and value the energy required to be dedicated, the labor necessary to leave a legacy, to be the next MVP. Keep that energy up with how you rest, treat yourself, and connect with community. In gallery or on set, Someday’s grind can be felt in every treat and exhibition, it’s like we’re putting up points, but Hospitality, Art, and Community is our game. 👥 — Photographs by (Someday Founder) @itstrotter Styled by Luka Sabbat @lukasabbat Grooming by Robbin Kujus @obbinkujusmakeup Barbering by Sebastian Jackson @sebastianwho Braiding by Kamary Mingo @i_be_braiding Tailoring by Sarah Lapinski Special thanks to St. Cecilia’s Gym @ceciliaville_ Street mural art by @olayamidabls Self-portrait art by @hechavarriazaldivar (for self-portrait above chalkboard) Title: “Head Of A Man (Alleged selfportrait of the artist) Mediums: Acrylic on basketball ball, hunting badge and metal stand Dimensions 35cm-35cm-40cm Year: 2024 Artist: Manuel Hechavarría Zaldívar (b.1988) (Artwork is available for collection - dm/emailed if interested)
