Matisse Ciel conjures oceanic poems and deities on small stages. They are living in between words, in between genders and in between the earth and the sea. Matisse believes that every artist is a ceremony holder and every piece of art is a ritual. They are convinced that our tears are saltwater as a remnant from our underwater origins and are on a quest to help us remember. On earth, Matisse is a white, trans and genderfluid, neurodivergent and disabled, multi-disciplinary performer. They just received a DYCP grant to develop work around their concept of ‘saltwater’. The research is focused on creating pieces that serve as memoirs for living trans people, producing content based on real life material. It explores what happens when the silenced stories in our bodies and histories are retrieved, owned and told. Collaborating with a network of trans artists across disciplines, they are creating a hybrid method for working with gender non conforming performers that aims to challenge the extractive nature of devising and center healing and creative processes. All this to prepare the making of a large-scale version of saltwater with a chorus of trans artists, waving and crashing their stories together. For now they are in residency at @weareuglyduck to prepare a solo version of saltwater. Their hope is that seeing the universe, performers will feel invited to collaborate for the larger version. Tides is an exploration of being transformed by water, time folding in on itself in cycles, inexpressible feelings… a sonic recreation of being submerged in ocean tides. I have an incredible all trans line up of my favourite artists, all responding and expanding on the EP, with ambient soundscapes, improvised electronics, ethereal singing, field recordings, amplified violin and cello, tapes and movement… It’s going to be a beautiful one. I am proud to have @valeriiiaaaaa and @lulumanning_ doing support sets. I will perform the EP, in an expanded way, joined by @glassforbrains , @ratsaladratsalad and @insideamagneticplanet . I AM NOW A CABARET ARTIST ❤️‍🔥 and I am looking for places to perform this ember of fire. After too many years, I finally tried Drag & Cabaret and found a medium that fits me like a red satin glove. Thanks to @ayntheatre ‘s Alternative Drag & Cabaret course, I made this piece about Neptune’s entrance in Aries. As your local diviner, tuned into the celestial movements and fueled with irrepressible revolutionary desires, I invite you to a grief ritual where the dream/nightmare we live in asks of you : how much PLEASURE will you take in being a glitch in the imperialist machine ? Thanks to the divine @mollybethmorossa and the genial Gemma Leader for guiding us with love and care. Our fundraising fair for Yaya's visa application fees is just round the corner, here's some more info about what you can expect this Sunday! @metaasianbaby will start us off with a DJ set in the main space, then the floor will be yours with karaoke between 7:30-9:30pm. The event will end with the announcement of raffle prize winners. Delicious homemade food and drink will be available at the bar all evening with plenty of vegan and gluten free options. It’s been hard to find joy lately. For months. Hard to find a place for solace, joy and purpose.
