In Person at Lincoln Center NYC
For those of you new to Raga Maqam, this 15-person ensemble is an exploration of the ancient, shared musical connection between Iraq and India.
A public premiere of new work composed by Iraqi American multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Amir ElSaffar in conjunction with members of Brooklyn Raga Massive and maqam virtuosos from NYC and beyond, Raga Maqam imbues fresh life to their unique conversation between these ancient styles. Raga Maqam’s 15-performer ensemble unites a combo of virtuosic artists hailing from America, India, Iraq, Iran, Palestine, Jordan, and Turkey with instrumentation just as eclectic as its musicians, featuring masters of the santur, oud, violin, sitar, bansuri, kamancheh and tabla.

“There is tactility to thread, both in process and result, that is intrinsic to the senses. As I layer thread on thread, pigment on pigment, I consider each of my movements as a means of evolving a surface individually in order to properly capture the essence of each composition,” - Natasha Das @natasha_das_art
Two years ago we supported Natasha Das in NYC for her Studio Tour and Reception followed by a conversation between her and noted curator Darielle Mason, the Head of Department of South Asian Art at The Philadelphia Museum of Art.
This is where Rebecca Segall the owner/director of Gross McCleaf Gallery ( @grossmccleaf ) in Philadelphia was introduced to Natasha’s work. It is exciting to know that they are presenting her debut solo exhibition at The Gross McCleaf Gallery in Philadelphia.
Open to the public through the whole month of May 2021 at Gross McCleaf Gallery, Philadelphia, PA.
