FRAGILITY, Into Niilo, Belgium Knuckleduster « I wanna choose love|Instead of fear », 2024 80x40x50 mm / 200 gr Steel [3D printed]; black matt finishing 3D-printed steel; puzzle object using custom process integrating opposing text geometries. This work consists of a pair of interlocking knuckledusters that form a single solid object when pressed together. When separated, the phrase I wanna choose love | instead of fear becomes legible. The object is a 3D-printed steel puzzle piece, built on a custom process that allows the opposing text forms to fit precisely into one another. The work examines the fragile intersection between aggression and tenderness, defense and exposure. The material conveys strength, yet the message reveals vulnerability—a deliberate contradiction. When joined, the pair appears whole and silent; when divided, it speaks. In this dual state lies a reflection on fragility as a condition of coexistence: the constant balancing of opposing forces, and the quiet courage required to choose love in the presence of fear. /fragility-into-niilo-belgium #alliages #fragility #contemporaryjewellery

Ted Noten at Marzee The exhibition ‘Ted: 36 years on the move’ / aka ‘Route 36’ is a journey full of eye-opening moments. With the catalogue annex price list in hand, it becomes a truly wonderful collection of anecdotal insights with the stories behind the work, told by Ted himself. A guide through an artist’s life, featuring experiences, reflections, but also self-criticism, as well as critique and observations on gallery owners, the Otto and Onno-syndrom, Miss Piggy, the church, politics, greed. It is a journey in time from 1990 to 2026, in which changes in the world play a part, and, as we have come to expect from Ted, he does not mince his words. Ted as a do-gooder, a perpetrator and a suffering soul, rebellious and accommodating. Caterer to the rich and famous, with gold and waste, nothing is beyond him. April 18 — June 23 Ted Noten solo show in @galeriemarzee 36 Years on the Move / aka Route 36 A retrospective exhibition of Ted Noten. Not tied to an anniversary or any particular milestone — yet why not? It begins in 1984 and then jumps to 1990, when Ted graduated and began his career. + a special art book presentation ⚡️ Noten’s hopes, thoughts, struggles, anecdotes, stories behind particular pieces — all presented in a brief, light, and often humorous manner. It feels as though you are sitting in Noten’s studio, listening to him — only here, you are reading and looking. The idea for the book emerged from Ted’s close collaboration with @in2into , his assistant. @tednoten — The author, The jeweller and The reason of the event @in2into — Right Hand, idea and design of the book @elena__karpilova — foreword and some book ideas « Buckle up, viewer - we are racing along Route 36 with few rules and restrictions. Sometimes pedestrians will cross, wild animals may appear, the road isn’t always even, and in some places it’s downright off-road. The route was built at different times, using different technologies, and its builder did not always care for perfect paving. There will be places to slow down and enjoy the landscape, and places to speed through with the top down. At the end of the route, construction continues - the road is not finished, and ahead lies a large, yet unknown path. Does it sound unreliable, fragmented, or unclear? Possibly. But as Nietzsche said: « One must still have chaos in oneself to give birth to a dancing star. » Elena Karpilova »

The practice blends materials, techniques, and media to explore themes through dark humour and subtle surrealism. Jewellery is the main focus, while graphics and video expand the narrative. Work engages with physicality, psychology, politics, and identity, shaped by experience as an artist in exile. Recent projects confront political and social conditions, using jewellery as a site where private experience meets public pressure. How this work fits into our exhibition: These works address the boundary between what is concealed publicly and what is suppressed internally. In contexts where speaking can lead to exile or disappearance, silence is treated as discretion or loyalty. Meaning is embedded in material: text hidden against the skin, words revealed only through separation. Unity conceals; disassembly discloses. Jewelry becomes an acceptable surface for carrying what cannot be said: fear, tenderness, dissent. Through making, silence is given form.
