Image Threads Collective

Image Threads is excited to announce a new free mentorship program! For this initiative, the collective members as well as other participating photographers and bookmakers will be making themselves available to those looking for periodic dialogue and critique on an ongoing body of photographic work intended for book form. Mentoring is free of charge and will take place virtually on a bi-weekly basis, over the course of 2-3 months (a more precise schedule will be determined by each mentor and participant.) As the program is being conducted on a volunteer basis, each mentor will be selecting a limited number of projects—those we feel are best-suited to the format and to our mentors’ respective areas of expertise. In the spirit of Image Threads’ mission, preference will be given to individuals without access to comparable educational opportunities. Six years after our very first workshop in Cuba, we returned to Havana in November with some more books for the photobook library hosted by @fototecadecuba and a workshop "Photographs that mean something" led by @p.oculism and @jfridlyand . We can't wait for the @cpw_kingston CPW Photobook and Zine Fair on July 22 - 23! Image Threads will be sharing a table with the @penumbrafoundation on Saturday, July 22 so make sure to swing by and say hello. They'll even have a cozy reading room with a selection of zines and epic workshops to enjoy.

Our co-founder Nathaniel Grann (@ngrann ) will be teaching a weekend pre-college photography course this October at the Pennsylvania College of Art & Design (@pcad_ce ) titled “Introduction to the Photobook”! Working both as a group and as an individual, participants will explore various methods of photo sequencing and photo editing in relation to the photobook. Through creative in-class exercises, participants will dive into a short introduction to the fundamentals of digital photography and image selection. This class is perfect for those who are just getting started on their journey with photography, as well as for those who have more experience and want to expand their knowledge.
