For younger artists, summer camps offer hands-on fun and discovery through painting, drawing, animation, specimen illustration, character design, mural creation, origami, clay sculpture, and even learning how to create and exhibit their own artwork.
And pre-college courses are available that allow students to deep dive into areas like figure drawing, anatomy, graphic design, photography, digital illustration, and more!

We’ll read stories inspired by community building then build, glue, cut, scribble, and stamp a mini city!

This introductory oil painting class for students in grades 9-12 is expansive and informative. Covering observational techniques, master copies, and synthesizing memory and observation, students will learn proper and safe handling of oil paint and its materials, correct surface preparation, and various methods of painting in oil and their historical context. Students should expect to explore how to see and plan a composition, navigate color theory and relationships, and paint in expressive and illusionistic ways. Process from ideation to completed painting is a focus in the course, and students will gain skills for measuring and translating ideas into visual representations amid gaining valuable skills and knowledge of oil painting techniques and materials. In this hands-on two-week course, students in grades 9-12 will develop both the technical and artistic skills needed to have an introductory understanding of photography. Starting with manual camera controls (aperture, shutter speed, and exposure) and finishing with editing in Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom students will gain experience of the entire photography process. Along the way, students will explore lens types, editing programs, and photography ethics. By the end of this credit-baring course, students will walk away with new photography skills and a portfolio-ready project. This is a credit-bearing class and grades will be given. If you are interested in visual development, character & creature design or digital animation this class is for you! Introduction to Digital Animation & Character Design combines the traditional character sheet with introductory skills in computer animation. In this camp for grades 7-10 you will learn the basics of drawing for animation, creating character turnarounds and composing a polished character sheet. We will work in Krita (a free open source drawing and animation program) to sketch, ink and animate our own original character from start to finish. By the end of the course you will leave with a finished printed character sheet as well as a digital animated gif version of this sheet in action. Our camp will culminate in an exhibition on the final day! This is a studio based class with a bit of guidance, demonstration, and one-on-one instruction. Expect to have lots of creative freedom within the bounds of the assignment! Register today!

Introduction to Portraiture is perfect for young artists in grades 4-6 looking to hone their fine arts skills and learn the foundations of technique and expression for portraits. Students will be able to experiment through the processes of gesture, observational drawing, abstraction, and narrative in addition to portrait drawing. Whether you are a beginner looking to try something new or working on refining your skills, this class offers a chance to explore the creative possibilities of portraiture. The art of storyboarding is an essential tool in the world of creative production. From cartoons and video games to music videos, movies, comics and more, storyboard artists help production teams visualize their ideas in action and come to a cohesive final piece. Students in grades 6-9 will leave the class with finished storyboards as well as a deeper understanding of the art of visual communication and visual development. Additionally they will leave with an understanding of the basic artistic principles of composition, value, sequential illustration and story structure.
