We are pleased to introduce the rising star of the month: Cinematographer Ilona Vanouplines!

@ilonavnplns is a Belgium-based director of photography with a focus on real, human stories. Ilona studied cinematography at the Narafi in Brussels, where she gained a broad understanding of filmmaking, including directing, editing, sound, and production. She started her career as a camera operator for news before moving into freelance work in fashion and food videos, then fiction and commercials. She is currently a rookie member of the Belgian Society of Cinematographers (SBC @the_sbc ), reflecting her growing presence in the Belgian film community. She recently worked as DoP on She They Us (Zij Hen Wij), a documentary series portraying seven individuals from the Lowlands striving for a more equal world. The series explores intersectional discrimination across gender, sexuality, skin colour, class and religion, and was awarded Best Documentary Series at the 2025 Ensor Awards.
