When René Magritte receives an invitation to the estate of the flamboyant Lord James in England, the summer of 1936 is in full swing. The rising artist is there to contribute to an exclusive exhibition alongside luminaries such as Salvador Dalí, Man Ray, and Lee Miller. But what should have been a dream for the Belgian surrealist quickly turns into a nightmare when, after a wild night, he wakes up next to the lifeless body of a young artist, posed like one of his own paintings. As Scotland Yard launches an investigation and the guests are forbidden to leave the estate, Magritte must do everything in his power to prove his innocence. “This Is Not A Murder Mystery” directed by Hans Herbots @hansherbots , lensed by cinematographers David Williamson, SBC @ballisticmonkeyman and Maxime Honoré @maximhonore Production by @panenkatv and distributed by @studiocanal #Magritte #HansHerbots #DavidWilliamson #MaximeHonore #Cinematography #BelgianCinema #Surrealism #Film #Thriller #Mystery #VisualStorytelling

A huge congratulations to Victor Maes @monsieur_musclaira and Kate Voet @_katevoet for winning the Venice Immersive Prize at the 82th edition @labiennale di Venezia. A Long Goodbye tells the story of Ida, a 72-year-old pianist living with dementia. In this animated, interactive VR experience, we walk in Ida’s shoes. We experience a day in her life, as her reality is fading. The apartment, where she spent a lifetime with her beloved husband Daniel, first feels empty and undefined. When we interact with objects and play the tape recordings of her husband, her playful world gradually comes to life, as if drawn in paint before our eyes. Like pieces of a puzzle, memories and conversations help Ida to rediscover herself. But we also discover Daniel’s struggles, as he hopes to stay connected and realises their remaining time together may be short. A Long Goodbye is a poetic experience about the impact of dementia, but above all it is about love and the long goodbye of two lovers who shared a life together. Nuns murdered and buried in a mass grave. Catechism instructors shot in their own homes. An archbishop murdered in his cathedral while performing mass. For decades, Liberation Theology, a grassroots branch of Catholicism that stood with the poor and oppressed, played a powerful and influential role in Latin American revolutionary movements. Its fundamental tenet, Nicaraguan theologian and journalist María López Vigil says, is that God is not neutral, and is on the side of the poor. And because of that, its practitioners were targets. To the US, Liberation Theology was more dangerous than communism. To an increasingly conservative Vatican, it was a movement to be suppressed. Now, decades after the period of revolutionary ferment in Latin America, the gospel of revolution travels through the region, meeting key figures and tracing the history of the Liberation Theology movement. Through powerful archival footage and contemporary interviews, the film shows how these radical Catholics fought injustice alongside peasants, workers, and Indigenous people, refusing to accept poverty and oppression. Liberation Theology stressed structural change and mutual aid, in contrast with today’s more self-focused evangelical movements. At a time when evangelical Christianity is on the rise and associated with conservative politics, the gospel of revolution serves as a powerful reminder that it doesn’t have to be this way. Alpha is 13 years old. She lives alone with her mother and is going through the turmoil of adolescence. When she returns home from a party with a tattoo, something seemingly innocuous sends shock waves through her household. The film is set between the 1980s and 1990s. Julia Ducournau @julia_ducournau introduces a fictional epidemic that is clearly reminiscent of AIDS, which is in turn evocative of Mauvais Sang (Bad Blood) by Leos Carax. After premiering at the prestigious @festivaldecannes , Alpha has it’s theatrical public release.
